I wasn't paying attention and put my CF Card in sideways. While extracting it I bent (broke?) 2 pins. Unfortunately
I won't know until Tues or Weds if it is repairable. Contacted KEH & Canon for estimates. Really bad part was I got my new lens Fri nite and broke camera before I could use it. Lesson learned. Plus side: If not repairable Best Buy will let me take lens and new CF Card back. Back to using my Sony Cybershot for awhile. Darn. Just needed to vent to people who understand my pain if not my stupidity. Thanks.

There has been a rash of CF card pin bends lately it seems like. 2 Canon users in my local photo club have had the same problem since Christmas. Glad I use SD cards instead.

Was told yesterday that IF I have to replace my camera it will probably have SD as they no longer use CF. Hope it is fixable though! Keep dreaming about vanishing dollar bills! LOL

What a bummer. I am sorry that happened to you and I hope it is economically repairable. This is the main reason I download photos from the camera with the USB cable. I bought 2 cards when I bought the camera last fall. Right after my wife and I got back from vacation in October I took the card with the vacation pictures out and put the other card in and have not removed it since.

Yeah... read about someone else doing that on here Fri night. Told myself what a great idea that was. AFTER I messed up. Even have the USB cord to use. Lesson well learned! LOL

Sorry for your loss, hope you get your baby back on its feet quickly.
I used to swap my CF cards, now I DL them via cable, card don't leave camera. Heard too many horror stories about bent CF pins

Nikon D5100 has the USB transfer cable but it won't work. Hope there is an update soon for software so it will work.

My son downloads all his shots from his D5100 through his USB cable, never a problem and its pretty fast.

I have the D5100 and USB download works perfectly. Make sure you are using the cable that came with the camera.

Eye-Fi is NOT compatible with CF card cameras, they are SD only. Eye-Fi itself tells their customers to NOT use adapters as it leads to a multitude of problems. Here is their link:

I have seen on a few other sites where the guys are straightening the pins them selves. Did they break or just bend? At the hobby shops they sell jewelry tools that are small and can get into small places. If they aren't broken. You don't have much to loose.
My D300s has the SD and CF cards. I always use the CF for backup.

So sorry! I've never had this problem and I use my SD card all the time because to me it's so much more convenient than pulling out the USB cord. However, I will be extremely careful from now on!
