I sent my 70-200 Sigma off to to their repair facility yesterday. I didn't realize how expensive UPS had gotten. The man quoted me the price of $35. Wow. I would imagine that Nikon has spent a good chunk of money to UPS pertaining to the D600 issue.

Don't go to the UPS franchise outlets. They tack on an extra 15-25% & that's there commission.
use UPS depots & same for Fedex.
USPS is a deal on there flat rate boxes.

UUGGHH!! I wish I would have known. Small town, and not a lot of choices here.

I sent my Sigma lens back for repair a couple of years ago. I went overboard to package it securely, about a week later I got it back. In a large box with about 25 Styrofoam peanuts bent filter ring & never worked since. I will never buy another Sigma product ever.!!!! I hope you have better luck.

Yes, I certainly hope that doesn't happen. Overall, I am very pleased with the Sigma, until it acts up.

What was the problem that it needed to be repaired? I have the same lens and wondering what went wrong.

Quite often when I would attempt focus, the lens would chatter, focus back and forth very quickly. Not the same as when a lens will rack itself back and forth to extreme. This was a small movement, kind of like just on each side of being in focus. And a good number of times, when it locked focus, it was not actually dead on. It has done this since fairly new and thought I'd better get it taken care of before the warranty runs out.

I used the service outlet in Arizona to repair my 100-300 f4 DG HSM. They were great on quoting and repairing and re shipping safely one of my favorite lenses.

The kit lens that came with my first Nikon Camera did the very same thing. The second time back to Nikon the lens was replaced. This isn't just a Sigma problem. By the way, I have the same 70-200 Sigma lens and I love it.

Thanks. I have about 12 or so lenses, and this particular one is the only one I have ever seen exhibit this behavior.

I use USPS and print labels at home - Priority Mail. Then I just drop it off at the PO - no waiting in line. My UPS opens at 3:00 PM for just a few hours, although I have used the satellite store several times.

I built a wooden box to send in a few saw blades for sharpening.
UPS charged me double ($40) for using the wooden crate instead of a cardboard box! I can't figure out their reasoning yet?

My experience with the good old United States Postal Service has been much better and cheaper than UPS or Fedex. They will sell you a flat-rate Priority box for not nearly as much money. You can fill it with peanuts or your favorite filler.

Repair facilities: I have used C.R.I.S. in Chandler AZ on several occasions. They are authorized Sigma warranty repair (As well as many other major brands.) I have had excellent service from them.

You can just go to www.UPS.com and print your own labels, then drop off the package at a UPS store, or any brown truck. I would think a lens would cost no more than $15 to ship anywhere in CONUS.
