after a few years, my printer finally died I need a printer that makes good photos and can handle simple reports. I am thinking either a Epson or canon. Just steer me in the right direction. Nothing really fancy, but can get the job done no more than $200 or hopefully a lot less.
The Canon Pixma Pro 100 is a great printer. $398 with excellent rebates offered. I am getting beautiful prints from it.

No matter which one you choose, consider the cost of ink replacement. Stay away from HP. Try a Kodak.

It is not the cost of the printer to be concerned about... rather... the cost of the INK. Before buying check to see if a CIS is available for the printer. My Epson NX305 ... RIP... lived well with a CIS and saved my $2000 in OEM ink costs. It died from "Internal Parts Exceeded Life Expectancy".... What, like the Androids in Blade Runner??? Now using Epson 825 with CIS.

I have the Canon pro 100 for $100, but am waiting for a CIS or refill ink injection. Neither available yet... The OEM ink costs more than the cost of the printer.

I know you're the champion of CIS, so if you see a system available for the Pro100, please let us know. As you said, the ink costs more than the printer.
This is a great printer. A very large printer too 27x15x7.25. So you better have plenty of room for it. I have had mine for a year now and only print photos on it. Mainly 13x19. Get about 7 or 8 of those depending on color coverage on the prints before replenishing ink. Set of 8 ink cartridges runs about 120$. Love the prints though...well worth it to me.
After rebates...I got mine for 170$...so this is a great deal. Thinking of getting a backup for that price! Free Shipping too! These suckers are heavy...meaning built well!
