I am really impressed...with the image itself from such a low cost lens.

I have been told that bass fishing will get you closer to the King of Kings than photography. Digital photography is a close second!

Pop that 800mm image into PP, add a little clarity, contrast, vibrance, sharpening and a tiny amount of noise reduction - it compares favourably with many long lenses.

I did it with the thumbnail you posted, the original would be even better.

Looks like you got more plus response than I did , but that's cool , thanks for your input so much , Go to show you not all cheap ones are bad...

I collect and use old lenses, they cost very little and are sometimes a challenge. I would love to find one of these for my collection. After seeing your results I would not hesitate to buy one. Perhaps the next camera fair . . .

i saw a 500/1000 lens on amazon for 109. I was contemplating it but the reviews were strong both ways. wasnt sure if i should take the chance! When its evenly split i usually am more worried than say it going one way or other. I may have to reconsider

well i have never worked with adapters (this requires a T-mount) so i guess im a little intimidated by adding a piece i dont know much about to my body. i am assuming the mount goes into the body (like a reg lens) and the lens just screws in? or is it more to it than that?

I just screw the adapter on the lens then mount it to the camera like any other lens , if the lens doesn't line up you simply loosen the caller screws and line it up an retighten, really simple....

we all love great glass, but every now and then someone shows us what good things we can do with average or mediocre lenses.

Back about 30 years ago cameras was my hobby as well as photography. I bought, sold, and traded quite a few cameras and lenses. Once when I had a shopping cart full of lenses a friend, who was into photography, and I decided to test them out. We set up a target (the kind used for testing lenses) and tested about 20 lenses. We had Minolta, Pentax, Nikon, Canon, Contax, Vivitar, and even a Sears lens. The winner of the resolution test was the Vivitar Series 1! One of the lesser priced lenses. I'm not saying it was the best lens because we didn't have the ability to test distortion, color, contrast etc. Just that the sharpness was the best.

Now that's the skill in pp. thanks for posting. I own a 500mm mirror and like it very much even though it was only 80.00cnd.
Had to remove some outside metal so it screws on the D2X, with out this mod it couldn't fit under the prism housing.

I should add that doing it this way eliminated use of the adapter!

Mine is 500mm by Reflex and the mounting ring had to be shaved off (well the grip ribs) in place where it interfered with the bottom of prism housing, so it cleared it, barely. You don't have to shave it all around the lens though, only so it can allow for twist on movement.
Its *inexpensive lens* but the mod is rewarding!

Give it a shot, if you don't like it, you can always return it.
