Well, GW I have several comments. 1. Your daughter is a great shopper. 2. You did a fine job with the 800mm. You do have steady hands. What kind of lens, settings, camera etc. I enjoy the dirty details of a job well done.

Your not going to believe this ,but it's a Opteka 420-800mm f8 at shutter speed of 80 for the 800mm shot and the 55mm was a kit 18- 55mm Canon ....Thanks for the comments...

Pop that 800mm image into PP, add a little clarity, contrast, vibrance, sharpening and a tiny amount of noise reduction - it compares favourably with many long lenses.

I did it with the thumbnail you posted, the original would be even better.

Having had another look at your 800mm image, I am going to break the rules and post my processed copy.

Looks good , didn't do anything with it to show truth about the lens...Thanks for your response, I don't mind a little rule bending...I think it would be a lot clearer if it weren't for the mill smoke....

I'm impressed, especially with Searcher's pp results, considering the shot was hand held. Wonder what it will do with a steady tripod?

By the way, in another post, this lens was reported as junk - not to waste one's money. Could there be a wide variance in manufacturing quality control? If so, you have apparently lucked out! Sounds like a keeper to me.

we all love great glass, but every now and then someone shows us what good things we can do with average or mediocre lenses.

In fact, this image did not need an expert to bring it out, merely a couple of tweaks.

Bear in mind this was a tiny (600x400 pixels) thumbnail, I am really impressed a, with the hand holding and b, with the image itself from such a low cost lens.

Don't follow Searcher's recommendation. Instead pop that 800mm into a Priority mail box and send it to me. LOL

I have PS 6, but have only used it for cropping and rotating. Looking at my kids, their eyes seem even, but you'd never know it by the stuff they give me to make something out of.
I have the book, and you have inspired me to get off my duff. :)
