I'll be in Miami next weekend. Are the Painted Buntings still around and where are the best spots to see them and possibly photograph them?
Pardon my ignorance but what is a 'Bunting'?
I've been to Miami many times but have never heard of this term.

No problem, Gordon. My bad. I'm bird watcher and a photographer. I assumed way to much. Bird watchers will know what a Painted Bunting is. It's a gorgeous and beautifully colored bird that is rather uncommon throughout America except for a few places in Texas and Florida. Sorry about the lack of clarity.
OK, thanks for the information.
I would attempt using your favorite search engine and see what comes up.
Good luck,
Gordon
Thanks for the suggestion.

You'll have better luck on a birding list for Miami or Southern FLA, probably, than here.
This is my one and only painted bunting image, taken when I visited South Carolina - it was its first visit of the spring to my friend's feeder:

Nice capture! And thanks for the suggestion. I have the question out on several Florida birding sites. Thanks again for sharing your picture!
Allen, your photo is just fine and very beautiful The colors of this bird is awesome.
I just read an article on these birds and it seems that some are migrating northward. As you said in your message, S.Carolina is one of the states that they spend some time. I have no idea if they are staying there year round.

No buntings at this time in Miami. Comeback during Oct. Nov. you will find them around Tropical Fairchild Garden and also Zoo Miami... Good Luck.
I have photographed them a few times at Okeeheelee nature center at Okeeheelee Park in Lake Worth. They usually are on the ground behind the nature center because that's where the feeder is. Also have seen red cardinals and blue jays in the same area. The park is open daily and is free. Located on Forest Hills Blvd between Jog Road and Lyons Road. Its a beautiful well maintained park. It is however a long drive from Miami.

I wondered if they might not have already migrated north a bit. Thanks.
They have just recently left LaBelle,FL
Don't know about Miami but in walk into the second set of woodlands and look for the bird feeders.Fort Lauderdale 2 males and 5 females have been in my yard all winter. There are more at Green Cay Wetlands in Delray Beach, take the trail to the left and look for the bird feeders in the second set of woodlands
