I'd say most are pretty accurate.

True story:

In 1977, one of my High School teachers was an armature gunsmith. My dad had an old German 7.65mm semi-auto handgun that we wondered if would still fire. When I mentioned it to my teacher, he said to bring it in the next day and he would check it out. The next morning I handed him the pistol wrapped in a towel. He took it home, checked it out, brought it back a couple days later and at the end of the day handed me back the pistol and said there were no defects that he could find to keep it from firing. Then he told me that 7.65mm was the same cartridge as .32 auto and handed me a brown bag with 100 rounds of .32 auto ammunition for the gun.

Corporal punishment is sadly lacking from our society today. If we publicly flogged violent criminals, with the promise that repeat offenders would get even worse the next time, I bet recidivism would be near zero.

Thanks for the reality check of schools today. Just had a discussion with one of my daughters about our grandchild. She and her husband have already said that the grandson will either be home-schooled, or in a charter school. Don't know who will be left in public schools in another decade.

Kinda like the death penalty being a deterrent. Yeah, right. Yours is one of the stupidest ideas I've heard in quite a while.

Where's your answer? You're so judgmental and you don't voice an opinion? That makes you the idiot.

I'm smart enough to know that I don't have an answer that makes sense. It's too complex an issue to offer mindless platitudes and simplistic idiotic solutions, so I don't.

Your answer would go like this:-
"You don't understand. It's all his/her mother's fault. He/she didn't have a father and we must blame society and blame Christianity. You have tell these people, "Please don't murder or rape again, it isn't very nice. Now run off and have a nice day."
Our bleeding-heart, small-ell liberal socialists who run the penal system have been treating criminals this way for far too long. Most violence is perpetrated by cowards. Cowards love to bully but hate pain, so make it hurt.
As I said: "Recidivism will drop."

As someone who taught in a public high school for 34 years (retiring in 2009) all I can say is that the amount of hyperbole in these 2013 scenarios is staggering. While there are certainly instances appearing in the news where over zealous principals, staff, or school boards act in extreme ways, the examples posted are far from accurate depictions of how things are generally handled in a modern high school. They certainly don't reflect the observations of someone who has much first hand knowledge.

Far fetched! I think not! I remember my buddy and I walking to school with our shotguns we wound put them in the vestment closet in the church and go to class. After class we met up with Father Kevin and his dog and we would go hunting. Last year during a locker check a miniature leatherman was found in my son's backpack. Even thought the knife blade on the mini leatherman is less than three quarters of an inch, the idiot principal pressed weapon charges against my son. It cost several thousand dollars for the lawyer and we were very lucky to get an understanding judge. The case was thrown out of court.

Sometimes "complex" issues call for simple solutions.
