Forgot to add another way to get published easier: helping the media once in a while helps make contacts that way to so you can get help getting published.

The last fire I was at, I established a media area so they could get their shots without being in the way. I then had a nice talk with all of the media personnel that were there and ended up giving them each my business card and told them if they don't know if it is a big enough call or they can't make it and it is to call or email me and I will work with them on it. By doing this, I can make friends in the press so I can get my work out easier and also gaining some more respect that some people don't have for the emergency services and emergency service photographers.
