why do people spend 40 k on a 4wd pickup that will NEVER see adirt road let alone a 2 track? why do women feel its neccesary to have 20 pairs of black shoes? (opps. i started it now!) why do people continue to study for liberal arts degrees in this economy where there is no chance they'tt be employed anywhere that doesnt have a fry machine and golden arches upon graduation?

Because they can ??? BTW I don't own a single pair of black shoes ....

Not a single pair LOL .. I'm a sneaker girl and only have 1 worn out pair and a good pair of walking shoes. Guess I'm in a class all by myself LOL.

1. It is their money!
2. Because they prefer it!
3. Why not?

Why do so many spend $1200-$1500 on a camera, want to add a high end lens, then treat it like a p&s by leaving it in AUTO mode, and using free software to process the images, or worse, take the memory card to the corner store, then complain about the results? While CS5 is overkill, no free program, or one size fits all machine can come close to matching the results that can be achieved in programs such as Elements.

I think a lot of people buy a camera and software with the best of intentions but when they don't get great results instantly they just take the easy way out. When somebody gets started in photography they must embrace the notion that there is a huge learning curve which you never finish, you just keep trying to get better. I enjoy trying to get better because when I bought my first SLR I was told that I would have to learn from my mistakes and always accepted that I will always take some pictures that are not what I wanted. Because I look at this as part of the process I look at a bad picture as a lesson on what not to do and enjoy trying to get better. I hope this makes sense as the coffee has not kicked in yet.

Well put. Ultimately, we are creatures of habit. And if we haven't developed a habit yet, we lean toward the one that works best for us. I think that people spend the $$$ (perhaps prematurley) because they have it and don't even know where they're going with the whole photography thing yet. This is true for much in life. We get excited and roll on that feeling. It's not easy being human. Lots of regrets and frustrations come from not knowing enough to begin with. but, we can't wait!

Indeed. A couple years ago, I bought a $36,000 pick up, and after sale the salesman informed me Z71 meant "off road". I asked, at what point does a sane person take a thirty six thousand vehicle off road?
There was no answer.....

I am proud to say that in the last 5 years, I've subjected my 4dw to only on trip to a mall. I made up to it by going on a long drive on dirt roads.

Perhaps because not everyone is overly anal about minor details.

It is the small details that are the difference between a snap shot and a photograph.

i belive paying attention to detail is what makes a person a pro.

Define "anal" and "minor".
Guessing not the same for all.

You are correct, tongue in cheek. :)

When using the word "anal," you might want to avoid using the word "tongue."
