My son and I were photographing areas in the town where we grew up and I was giving him a short history lesson. When we came to what used to be the Canadian Pacific Railroad station, I was moved to tears. My grandfather was a conductor on this line and my grandmother and I used to take the passenger train to Canada.

I am hoping this set of pictures convey the feeling of isolation and abandonment I got while I was there. Do you think this set of pictures convey that feeling and what might I have done differently?

I did a little PP--levels and sharpening. My camera is a Canon Xsi and I was using my 18-135mm lens and I think I was shooting in auto--I have moved to manual but hadn't ventured that far at that time.

The photos are great.
I started a thread some time back asking UHH'rs to photograph their town, just as you have done. So much is disappearing these days that history is being lost. Keep doing the great job.

Thank you, I'm glad you like the photos. My son is hoping to write a book about growing up in rural Maine and illustrate it with some of our pictures. It has been interesting comparing our pictures to those taken 50 or 60 years ago. The changes are really quite depressing.

Being a former railroader and having had the tracks pulled out
from under me, I understand your sentiment. Here are a couple shots of an abandoned New York Central depot in Diamond Ohio. The tracks have been gone well over 30 years and passenger service stopped long before that. Your shots well
convey the loss. Thanks.

Yes I think they showed the desolation well, as a former railroader, I know what it feels like to have the tracks pulled
out from under me. Thanks for posting.
