Some of you are aware of the Nest NT-530H Carbon Fiber Gimbal head that I was doing evaluations on earlier this winter, some of you have even bought them from my first dealer shipment.
The Nest factory has offered my little store the exclusive USA distributorship for this head, not just a dealership. I have tentatively accepted their contract and am right now in a minor negotiation with them over warranty work. These heads come with a 5 year factory warranty, but the factory is half way around the world. If I am going to be the USA distributor, I want to be the USA Authorized Repair and Warranty Center also, so I am asking for a certain amount of repair parts inventory to be supplied to me for free in advance. Once that issue is sufficiently resolved the contract will be signed and I will be seeking a few dealers around the country in order to have a dealer network setup by early summer.
Quite a feather in the cap of the little guy trying to compete with the corporate world of photography equipment stores!
The selling price will remain at $298 and will include one 6" long ARCA QR plate, a padded and fitted carrying case, and FREE SHIPPING in the USA. Next large inventory shipment is due at the store by April 2nd, or even sooner depending on customs.

Congratulations MT. Your contribution to this blog has been most helpful.

Hey MT Shooter,
...a great big "congrats" to you out there in "Big Sky" country. Took a look at the Nest Gimbal head on-line and it looks pretty interesting. I do own a Wimberley gimbal head I bought used from Calumet Photographic a couple of years ago and it's a very sturdy piece of equipment. Calumet, at the time I bought the used gimbal head, had their own version, but, the one salesperson I bought it from who I was very familiar with, said the Calumet item was garbage. After comparing the two the Wimberley won hands down. So, my question to you is, "How does this Nest gimbal stack up against the Wimberley"?
In addition, I live in Chicago, IL, and Calumet Photographic has gone out-of-business here and throughout the US. Just one more of the "Big Guys" you don't have to compete with.
And, one last thing: if this venture of yours gets off the ground, bear in mind Chicago is a very big market for photographers who might be interested in your item. I would consider becoming part of your team, but that can come later.
Thanks...KEEP SHOOTING!!!

Wonder if you could work me a price for sending it to Goa in India? Thanks.

I have no selling rights in India, it would be a "grey market" item for you if I did send you one. The Asian distributor is in Thailand, and there is an Australian distributor also. I only have rights to the USA, sorry.

Yes, this is the Gimbal head only, you would still need a tripod to mount it on. But its the standard 3/8" mount so it will fit pretty much any tripod on the market, even most older ones.

The Wimberley WH-101 was the head that revolutionized the Gimbal head industry and was a very good overall design. Wimberley did re-design the head several years ago and the new design is called the WH-200, still their top production model. I had 3 of them, one I sold, one is on Ebay now, and I am keeping the third just as a comparison sample for my store. I do like the Wimberley and that was the standard I used in my comparison testing of the Nest. The second generation Wimberley was a major improvement over their first as it addressed the two biggest issues they had, the mount plate and its weight!
The Nest is every bit as smooth as the WH-200, lighter weight, more rigid, and dampens vibrations better. It also comes with one QR plate while the Wimberley requires you to buy plates separately at $52-$58 each. The big deal closer for the Nest was that it comes with a plate, and a nice fitted/padded carrying case, at HALF the price of the WH-200. And the carbon fiber just LOOKS cool!
I had a used Calumet once, and yes, it wasn't much of a head. Love their German made filters though.
Chicago is one of those markets that I would love to find a dealer in. Hopefully a smaller, independent camera store as I have a soft spot for them, probably because I am one! LOL

Thank you for the quick reply. It's unfortunate that Calumet closed here in Chicago. All of the other camera stores here that catered to professional, serious amateurs, etc., have gone the way of the Dodo. There are no really big stores here anymore that accommodate photographers, with the exception of Central Camera in the downtown Loop area of Chicago.
Thanks again.

That's very unfortunate. I was in Central Camera many years ago, it was a very nice store back then.
