Some of you are aware of the Nest NT-530H Carbon Fiber Gimbal head that I was doing evaluations on earlier this winter, some of you have even bought them from my first dealer shipment.
The Nest factory has offered my little store the exclusive USA distributorship for this head, not just a dealership. I have tentatively accepted their contract and am right now in a minor negotiation with them over warranty work. These heads come with a 5 year factory warranty, but the factory is half way around the world. If I am going to be the USA distributor, I want to be the USA Authorized Repair and Warranty Center also, so I am asking for a certain amount of repair parts inventory to be supplied to me for free in advance. Once that issue is sufficiently resolved the contract will be signed and I will be seeking a few dealers around the country in order to have a dealer network setup by early summer.
Quite a feather in the cap of the little guy trying to compete with the corporate world of photography equipment stores!
The selling price will remain at $298 and will include one 6" long ARCA QR plate, a padded and fitted carrying case, and FREE SHIPPING in the USA. Next large inventory shipment is due at the store by April 2nd, or even sooner depending on customs.

sounds really positive. I currently have a Altus Pro tripod from Vanguard. Now that the weather is getting nice, I had toyed with the idea of getting a gimbal head for my tripod. My question is about compatibility. As far as you know, would the head you are going to be selling fit on a vanguard Altus Pro tripod, or do gimbal head tripods need real beefy (read expensive) tripod legs to work properly. I'm not trying to jury rig anything. If I am going to go this route, I want the stuff to work. Any information you can provide in this regard is very much appreciated.

I do not have personal knowledge of that model Vanguard, but I believe their entire Pro line has the standard 3/8" thread mount for all standard heads, meaning the Nest will fit onto it. The Nest Gimbal weighs only 2.7 pounds, but that weight and the weight of your camera/lens combo needs to be added for total load on the legs and compared to the rated capacity of those legs.

Hi MT congratulations on your coup. I did not see your review but I purchased one at Christmas based on my own research. I am blown away by this gimbal as it is a fantastic piece of kit. I have it teamed up with a Giottos Pro MML3290B monopod and stability is superb and gives me a really sturdy platform for my D5300 and 80-400 Sigma.

Carter; It is always good to see the small guy jump up in front of the big boys. Congratulations! I am hoping to swing by your shop next year on the way out to the left coast! Have been in the Billings/Bozeman area several times and always have enjoyed the wonderful landscapes that abound.
You have helped numerous folks here on the Hog and it is always nice to see you get your reward for that!

Congrats MT if I was not so utterly happy with my Brit Gimbal Id preorder today. I guess I'll need to work on self justification for another gimbal after all my existing is only aluminum and carbon should dampen vibration better... Right? ;-)

The carbon fiber does dampen harmonic vibrations better than aluminum, it is also more rigid to reduce the amount of flex in the neck if you have a wind blowing while shooting. Perhaps the biggest different noticeable is how warm the carbon fiber neck feels when shooting in very cold weather, you can grab it with your bare hand at -20 degrees and not cripple yourself for an hour!
