Adubin Loc: Indialantic, Florida

On New Year's morning, I went to the Eagle's Nest in Melbourne. I arrived there at 8:00AM and spent 2 1/2 hours viewing activities in and around the nest. One of the parents was sitting below nest the entire time I was down there. I never saw the chicks or a parent trying to feed them. I was down there a couple days before and saw one of the parents that gave me the feeling she was tearing apart some type of food and feeding it to the chick/s. While I was down at the nest yesterday, I did see the other parent fly on to power pole directly across from nest. The Eagle sat on the power pole for about an hour and then flew off into the woods. The weather was great and the sky was blue most of the time. I was able to capture few images of Bald Eagles.

For the Tech Geeks -
A Nikon D300 with a Nikon 500mm f-4 manual focus lens and a 2X Teleconverter was used to take photos #1 & #2 I used my Nikon D300S with a 70-200mm f-2.8 lens and a 1.4X Teleconverter to take photo #3. Lightroom 3 was used to enhance all these photos. PS CS4 was also used to enhance photos #2 & 3.

My opinion (and I am a newbie so I am not sure how much I can "critique"---all of your photos are so pristine. I love that you can even see the Eagles tongue in the first shot. Too bad there wasn't any clouds in the sky, just for a little background (just the wispy type). In the second one, you have captured the Eagles eye so well, it almost makes me feel like he is watching me. In the third one I ALMOST wish he was flying towards you, however, I can't get over the detail in his feathers and the fact that you can see all the layers.

nice images, Arnold. a touch soft, perhaps due to the slight loss of clarity from the converter, but considering how hard these would have been to get without one, i'd be happy with them any day!

I just viewed your other pics from the link.....I can't believe it - I have a "poop" shot myself..... Giggle. I captured mine by shear luck, I thought it was getting ready to take off & I was hoping to capture it flying away ;) how did you capture yours? Was it a fluke too or do you know their behavior so well, you knew what it was getting ready to do?
