It depends what side of the International Dateline you happen to be on - also, what planet you are on.

I guess I will throw my guess in. The clouds appear land based as they exhibit the dry, wispy look of having developed over land so I will say it must be a sunrise shot.

You're right about the clouds but you still loose. It is a sunset--the clouds are in the east and the afterglow is reflected off of them. Thanks for your input and compliments. It was a truly beautiful scene. It was taken in Mazatlan Mexico and shot from the same place as the others I posted. We were treated to a completely different sunrise each day.

Now I have one for you is it a sunrise or sunset? Taken in Mazatlan, Mexico
Let me know your answers

It looks like Sunset.

You're the only one who got it right. It is a sunset. The clouds are in the east and the afterglow is reflected off of them. Thanks for your input and compliments. It was a truly beautiful scene. Easy.

If it's going down into the water/horizon it's a sunset.

If it's coming up out of the water/horizon it's a sunrise.

Errrrrr

[quote=llindstrand]Sunrises from the Condo we had in Mazatlan Mexico. We were pleasantly surprised when we checked in as I had hoped for a view of the sunsets. They were out of western exposure rooms and gave us an eastern facing one. It worked out greatly as there was a only one good sunset and each morning had a beautiful sunrise.[/quote

Here are some more of the sunrises from Mazatlan Mexico. I even got the moon in number 2.

Just wondering, looking at an image how to figure out is it Sunrise or Sunset....any thoughts anyone?

Unless I missed something in the thread (wouldn't be the first time) ... it seems that nobody listed the obvious;
1. If it's morning ... Sunrise; evening ... Sunset.
2. Camera pointing East ... sunrise; pointing West ... Sunset
3. If I took the picture ... definitely Sunset! (just not much of an earlybird I guess!)
