Take a picture with the camera, upload it to http://
www.camerashuttercount.com and you'll get your answer.

Shutter counts can be obtained from about half the DSLR cameras out there. What model are you asking about specifically?

Many cameras store the current shutter count in the EXIF data of every picture. That website is reading the EXIF data of your picture and reporting back the shutter count number.

Any of the website driven counters will give you the D7000 shutter count accurately. A couple claim to be able to retrieve the 60D shutter count but very seldom are they able to do it. Eoscount.com can give the 60D count, but you have to pay to get it, they are not free.

Anand,

Is that the way B&H and Adorama grade there used cameras among other things? buyer beware. Do you really save that much by buying used?

They look at the overall condition. I have sold lenses to KEH in person, and they are very conservative in their grading, which favors the buyer more than the seller. Yes, you can save quite a bit buying used. I have bought some lenses used, including two VR I models as the VR II was released, and saved almost 30-40%. They have generally worked flawlessly, and the one time I was not happy with it, the store store took it back immediately. I have bought from KEH, Adorama, B&H, can Calumet.

roy4711, I'm curious since you have 2 of the cameras I'm considering! Which do you prefer and why? The Nikon D7000 or the Canon 70D? Which takes better pictures? Faster FPS? Quickest autofocus for sports photography? Please expound!
Thanks!

I have a Canon Service Center about 10 miles from me. I take my 5D there to have the sensor cleaned and ask for a shutter actuation count. If they charge me it is $30 for cleaning and, on occasion, they haven't charge me at all for either. It's easy, quick and reliable.

If at all possible, roy, try refurbished cameras. The prices are reasonable and the camera is classed as "new catagory". I saved 600.00 on a lens and camera, buying refurbished. I realize the cameras you mentioned may no longer be availible, Refurbished but you can give it a try.
Try B&H, Adorama and especially Amazon.com as they deal with many reputable dealers.

I've never gone wrong with any of those dealers.

:) :-) :P :-P

A number of folks on here have tried to get the D7000 or D7100 refurbished but they are almost impossible to get because the D7000 is a great camera and people who have them keep them. The D7100 is also a great camera and until there's a significant upgrade people are well satisfied with them. Keep hunting and you'll find one if that's the route you want to go.........

How good is the 7000/7100 -- well, I bought one new about a year after the 7000 was released. I used it for about a week and didn't like the "feel" of the camera. I was used to the heavier D300 & 300s so I sold it for about a 50.00 loss. After reading the reviews and comments from a lot of people I though maybe I had been too harsh a judge so found a good deal on a used one and bought the 7000 for a second time. I have to agree it's a great camera. I switched to FF about a year ago and plan to sell off all my APS-C bodies save one for the ability to gain greater reach with long telephotos. I have a D300. 300s, 5100, D90 and the 7000. I like all of them for different reasons but the 7000 is the one I'll be keeping!
