Moon using stacked images

I posted a single frame of this particular shot several months ago. This time I stacked 10 images each, using four different sections of the moon for a total of 40 exposures. Each exposure was 1/30 sec, ISO 100, 12-inch Meade telescope operating at f/10. Camera was a Canon 60Da. Use the download feature to get a larger image and go exploring on the lunar surface.
Photo taken at Sossusvlei Desert Lodge in Namibia, Africa.

The second image is the same as the first but I have used Photoshop Elements 9 to indicate all spacecraft soft landings as well as crashes, some intentional others not. The only crater I marked is named after Astronaut Neil Armstrong and it is marked with an arrow. The crater is 2 1/2 miles in diameter. The smallest craters visible in this photo is approximately 1 mile in diameter or slightly larger than Meteor Crater in Arizona. By using this image one can stop the often asked question, "can you see the American flag?" In reality, the Pentagon would be invisible.

Amazing shot. I need to learn how to stack images like this. How did you manage this?

Sorry for not answering a lot sooner, especially to waltchilds. I use a program called RegiStax 5 that is free and can be found on the internet. There is a tutorial that comes with it and should be followed as the program can be at times a bit difficult. I have tried to use the newer program RegiStax 6 but for some reason or another I just cannot make it work as well, so in a nutshell if it ain't broke why fix it? I went back to version 5 and am happy with it.
By using a stacking program you can get rid of a lot of noise, defects, etc found in single frame photos.
If anyone has problems using the program, I can try to help. The key is to take as many photos as possible and stack them, but be ware that today's cameras have a lot of data on their chips and may tax the capabilities of your computer.

Maybe that is the problem... maybe RegiStax 6 is too complex for my simple mind... I have a Dell XPS i7, 16GB memory (soon to have 32GB), and a quad core that shows up as 8 cpus under "Windows Task Manager's Performance Tab". I'll download the RegiStax 5 and see if I can learn how to use it.
