Yes, I am trying to avoid the hassle of all the equipment, and yes memory cards and batteries. Hey, is the Catskill Game Farm still in operation, used to go there several (many, many) years ago, used to love it:)

Unfortunately, they closed down years ago. It was basically run by a couple, and as they got older, and new regulations came into effect, it was too much for them. I have no idea what became of the property.

EDIT: Interesting

Ok, so I'm planning on taking the grandkids on a Disney Cruise in Oct, should I bring my T3i with one or several lens, ( sigma 24-70, canon 55-250, 18-55, I do have a couple other lens, but don't think they would be right for this, or I was thinking about buying a canon sx50, what are your thoughts?

If you can possibly fork over the cash, the SX50 is a great idea. While it won't match the IQ of your DSLR, particularly in indoor shots, it does a great job in the bright outdoor sun and its zoom range is incredible. IMHO, the best combination of cameras for cruises is the SX50, an underwater camera, and if you want great indoor shots, a large sensor compact or mirrorless with kit lens. Check out my shots in Photo Gallery; Caribbean Cruise and Canon SX50; a Match made in heaven and see if you like the results

I have the canon T3i and the sx 50. I would bring the SX 50...as I did to Hawaii and got some great photos. Less to carry around and worry about. Have a wonderful time.

I bought the the sx50 last year so I wouldn't have to pack all my heavy gear. Was so much easier and I got to spend time doing what I was on vacation to do....RELAX!!

I have been on two cruises, Alaska and the Maritimes. My suggestion would be to take something that handles low light fairly well. I don't know how the SX50 does in low light but I am sure other folks on the forum can chime in on that. I found a lot of spots on the ships weren't brightly lit. They are about the same as taking pictures in the house without flash.

Leave the heavy hardware at home. The SX50 is a great idea. Enjoy your trip.

I agree, as I"ve been on many many cruises, I can tell you this, unless its a once in a life time adventure, bring your smaller lighter camera equipment with you, and always bring a extra battery, and extra SD cards......

When I travel I take an 18-300. That way all the bases are covered. And I only take one lens. And a Nikon D7000.

I shoot with a Nikon camera....but my general overall multi purpose is my Tamron 18-270mm. Covers all bases of opportunity and lets me leave many lenses at home. It does come in a Canon mount and the picturesd were great.

I too shoot with a nikon, a nikon D300
and if I bring my DSLR along on a vacation, I prefer my nikon 35-70 2.8 Lens, it never dissapoints me, and truly gives me stellar results

I think a bridge camera like the Canon is a great choice on a cruise. I cruise a lot and take a Panasonic FZ70, which is quite similar to the SX50 you mention. On a cruise you are frequently climbing wet stairs or walking on wet decks and are frequently in rather cramped quarters where a DSLR and a bag full of lenses is going to be difficult to manage. Get the SX50 or one similar to it....
