Decisions decisions. As some you helpful lads may recall, I've been holding out to buy the phantom large megapixel DSLR canon If and when it materializes. I now find that I will need to put their phantom new zoom 24-70 with image stabilization on the waiting list. Anticipating a considerable jump in the cost of these rumored Canon products....I was wondering if anyone might have something to say about the already expensive Pentax d645 as a possible alternative. As some of you may recall, I require large megapixel and good glass for very large prints and good crop options. I know all you Nikonians are ready to pounce, but humor me. Thanks
J.
The Pentax 6465D is undergoing a revision right now. Discontinuance of the Kodak sensor it has been using is causing a upgrade and a brand new sensor. Price, as well as resolution, will likely be going way up for it.
In the meantime, the Nikon D800E is still king of the MP hill and will be for some time in the future.
Just get the
Leica S and be done with it.
One whopping megapixel more resoltuion than the D800.

Medium format sensor at the price of 3 645D's (40MP) or 8 D800's. THEN you need to buy compatible lenses (STARTING at $5000 no, well, no limit!). Definitely a toy for the rich.

One more megapixel for a lot more dead presidents

And so was I
The Pentax 645D 2014 will be available this Spring. The 52mp sensor is made by Sony, and that sensor will be available in other cameras as well. Meanwhile, there is the established Nikon D800 / D800E. (Sensor made by Sony.) You might also consider the Sony A7R. Though the selection of FE lenses is limited right now, inexpensive adapters will allow you to use almost any lens in your bag. This is because the FE mount's design is so innovative.
Thank you all...Pentax 645d = flight of fancy. I think the 5k lenses pushed it over the edge. One can dream.

Ya, I am considering swapping allegiance and going with the Nikons. The D800 is the "new" "medium format."
I bought the 645d and went the used lens route.works for me.

The real beauty of the 645D is that it accepts ALL the old 645 film lenses, both MF and AF. Many great lenses under $200.

Or a tool for the successful professional!
Why not Mamiya RZ67 with leaf 80mp digital back
