Nikon has come out with a great new line up of cameras and most have very large telephoto lenses:

Cool Pix P600 has a 60X that extends to 1200, optimal zoom
Cool Pix P530 has a 42X that extends to 84x optimal zoom
Cool Pix P9700 has a 30X that extends to 60x optimal Zoom
Cool Pix 340 has a f1.8 lense

For Bridge photographers there's plenty of great zoom lenses to get out there and reach. There is nothing longer than the P600 on the market.

Good shooting.....................

I am getting ready to buy a good camera, I am thinking of a DSLR, I want a great optimal zoom. I take semi professional photos . I want to expand and be a professional photographer, and do a lot more photos.
What camera would you suggest ? I am going to spend under $900.00.

A camera is a very peronal item, I am a Nikon person, who stepped into the Bridge Realm because I got tired of hauling my big equipment around, age had something to do with it......lol....you should go out, to a camera store, see how they feel, ask questions and find about lenses then decide.

Good luck..................

Kyredes2, I almost forgot the P600 extends to 1200mm and the Cool Pic P530 is also a long lense and both have eyeviews as well as pull out screens in the back.

Again it's all in the feel and how comfortable it is for you.
There's a lot of fine cameras out there, all makes, and you really can't go wrong.
Again good luck on your choice and I am sure you will find one that is right for you..................

First, would you tell me what a "semi professional" photo is?
Second and I know I'm going to catch it for this comment and I really don't mean it to be mean or snarky but it seems to me that your question suggests you're not ready to become a professional....just sayin.

Since the topic is about CoolPix cameras, and you are thinking of a DSLR, I think your question needs it's own topic, out of fairness to the original poster.

Start a new thread my friend. You'll have better luck that way.

Hey Fonzie, tell that to the numerous members who own, use, & love their 'super zooms'. To be qualified to offer your opinion, I would assume that you have owned (or at least used) one or two of these gimmicky cameras?

What is "Optimal Zoom"... :?:
Do you mean "Optical Zoom" as apposed to "Digital Zoom"...

Hi guys. This Nikon P600 is not 1200 mm. It has 60x zoom, with digital zoom it can do 120x zoom and at the 60x end of the zoom range it equals 1440 mm on full frame dslr. But like other superzooms it has a small sensor and can not deliver the same quality as a crop frame or full frame dslr. The main and maybe only advantage of super zoom cameras is the super zoom, or the zoom range you get for the money spent.

You are right, to a point. I, personally have a super zoom (SX50) which has a maximum equivalent of 1200mm optical zoom, plus more if one uses digital zoom (which is not high quality). The 'super zooms' do have small sensors, but most do a great job in spite of this. Few people compare apples with apples. I often see an IQ comparison of a super zoom at 1200mm with a DSLR at say, 400mm. Of course the DSLR will crap all over the super zoom (being probably 6 times the price, it should, too).

I have done comparative tests with my SX50 & my D7100 with a Sigma 70-200mm f2.8, which is known for its sharpness. Identical shots were taken at 200mm on both cameras. As would be expected, the D7100 was better, but not by much. The SX50 was sharp, the D7100 was very sharp. To look at them both side by side at 100%, the difference is barely noticeable. All I am saying is that, unless one needs to do some hefty enlarging, the little super zooms take very acceptable photos at 'normal' ranges. The big zoom capability is just a bonus. :-)

I didn't take it as being mean at all, every time I post on here there's always at least one smart self centered. remark made. I just ignore it and go on.
