I remember in the early 50's as a kid I bought a metal toy car for 10 cents made in Japan turn the car inside out it was made from an American beer can. Japan has came along way since then they make quality products today. I think they take pride in there work. I'm not downing American products. I would like some feed back.

The early 50's was a different time in Japan.

Every country produces some quality products and some crap. Do some have cultural or systemic tendencies toward on or the other? Certainly. But equally relevant is which get exported, and following that, which companies have survived.

We actually get some good quality lenses from South Korea very cheap. Some of those Samyang lenses deliver image quality and sharpness as good as some of the best Nikon, Canon and other respectable brand lenses. Maybe they will not last as long, I do not know, but we know for sure they cost only a fraction of the brand name lenses they are on pair with in terms of IQ, according to DXOmark.

Ditto that. Have one under the Rokinon badge. Pretty nice lens.

Quality comes in several factors. Almost any lens will be sharp in the center but many lose it at the edges. There are differences in resolution. The kind of glass(es)used, the number of elements and groups. Many low cost lenses are good optically but not mechanically; they may use cheaper materials or less precise machining, using grease as a substitute for precision. All of these, and maybe more, can account for the much higher price of some companies.

If the Chinese can successfully send people into space, they can design and produce a great lens... if they wanted to.

From what I understand most of these lenses come from Taiwan; not so much as Communist China?. American and Japan have more entrust in Taiwan!

It's like racing. The most talented driver on the track isn't going to do much if his equipment isn't going to support his efforts.

Don't try to tell that to Kenny Schraeder. He used to race anything against anybody anywhere. Rumor had him racing in over 175 races one year. If you beat him you were his friend for life. I understand that club was quite large.

McDonald's has what they call a "Senior Coffee." I don't recall the price, but it's considerable cheaper.

Maybe it's older, too?
