Nikon has some lenses made in China. Whoever owns the factory sets the standards. They would be using the same equipment and procedures that they would use in any other country.
If this were a Chinese company that designed and manufactured its own lenses, that would be different.
I agree with Jerry. A major manufacturer will build their own factory and bring in their own machinery, training methods and work standards, and after the initial learning curve by the employees the finished product will be as good as anything else they make. A smaller company will contract with a Chinese company for product of a certain standard and hopefully that is what they will get. As far as an all Chinese product, in my opinion that's a real gamble.

It's like racing. The most talented driver on the track isn't going to do much if his equipment isn't going to support his efforts.
