That is certainly good to hear!

I own and use the Canon 6D. It has built-in GPS -- a highly useful feature especially if you shoot landscape. It controls noise well. It has a smaller size and a lower weight than, say, the Canon 5DII. The 6D fits the hand nicely.

It has an easily understood menu for setting and controlling a dedicated flash unit.

The ISO button on the top plate sits where the index finger ergonomically finds it -- not a small consideration particularly if you shoot in Manual mode and want to make a slight adjustment to the ISO setting.

It does have a slower top shutter speed of 1/4000 second (instead of 1/8000 second) like, say, the Canon 5DII. But for my part I've not shot even a single photograph at the top shutter speed of my Canon cameras. So I don't miss it, and you probably won't, either.

All in all, the 6D strikes me as a winner. After using it for a while, I sold my Canon 5DII. The 6D replaced it.

That's saying something. I appreciate the comment. Thank you.

I moved from a T3i to a 6D in November. I love the image quality and the high ISO, low light capabilities. I make regular use of both the WIFI and GPS. I have not missed the articulated display which the T3i has and the 6D does not.
I recently tried to catch some bird in flight photos and I can see where this camera might not be the best for fast action stuff. (Neither am I for that matter). If you plan on shooting a lot of sporting events or anything that requires fast focus follow, you might want to consider other options.
For what I do 99% of the time, it's difficult to imagine a more perfect camera.

The attached "Lola" image is cropped from a photo taken at ISO 2000 in a, not too brightly lit, living room using a 70-300 mm L lens hand held (no flash).
The "Farm House image was shot at 3200 with illumination from the Christmas lights and a little moon light.

You probably know this but......if you have some EF-S lenses, they will not work on the 6D.

Peteto,

I've been using a 6D since they were first made available. I shoot mainly birds so I also have a 7D for in flight shots.
The 6D is sensational for static shots and especially in bad light. It's the best camera for handling noise, I've ever used. It does have it's limitations. It's limited in AF points with only the center point being a cross point. In bird photography that's usually the one that's used so it's not a big problem. The shutter rate is slow in comparison to the 7D but again I don't use it for action photography. If you do landscape then this is the camera for you but I have no idea where your interests lie.
If money isn't an object then the 5D is better in many ways.
It might help if I knew what type of photography interests you.
If you have any technical questions then may I suggest you contact MT Shooter on this forum. He's knowledgeable and an honest man. I have a lot of respect for him. If I can help you in any way, feel free to ask.
Perhaps a look at my website might help you to decide as well.
Best of luck.

Joe

I use a 6D for the slow and steady work and a 7D for fast
and furious. the 6D has better dynamic range and noise control.
you can expose 2,3,5 and 7 images for later computer processing by specifying in the custom functions 1 exp -5.
I have tried in camera HDR but prefer having control in post processing. also use an X100 for street...the new X-T1 is looking interesting.

I agree that the 6D is an outstanding camera. The HDR issue with the 6D and other recent Canon bodies is annoying because of the jpg limitation. You would think they could have the HDR in raw but they don't -- not even for the 5DIII or the new70D. I got the 6D for my wife who is a good shooter and she is very happy with it. I love my 5DIII but the 6D would be my alternative to it in a full frame camera.

You are absolutely right.

Built-in flash is really not an important feature in a FF camera. The larger sensor/lens can handle low light better to begin with. And nobody except maybe an utter noob likes the flat, almost dead-on-axis light of a built in flash anyway.

Maybe 95% of the time I'm using flash at all, it's a separate unit on a swing-type bracket so the flash is further off-axis and also still above the lens in portrait mode. I have occasionally used the built-in for fill flash. but I have been tending to use lenses that interfere with the flash coverage beacuse of their size and angular coverage.

Best in what way?

I wouldn't say it is the best but for the money it cannot be beat! It is an excellent camera for handling lowlight and it handles noise very well allowing you to use a high ISO. When using a higher ISO you can get a faster shutter speed which is very handy when shooting BIF.

My only complaint with the camera is the number of focus points. It could stand to have some improvements made in that area however it is satisfactory.

I would highly recommend this camera to anyone wanting to shoot full frame and cannot afford to spend $5000. The next best affordable Canon full frame is the 5D Mark III and it is not an inexpensive camera body.

I shoot the Canon 7D and 6D, I like the frames per second and focus system better on the 7D but for low light, high ISO and image quality I think the 6D is amazing. I would have bought the 5D MK III but couldn't justify the extra $2000.00. I think you will be very happy with this camera. It doesn't have pop up flash but I find using an external flash is much better anyway.

Hi-I had the Canon 6D until recently. It is an excellent choice. Size and ergonomics are good. Battery power is great unless you have the wi-fi connected. Noise is well controlled. Combined with L lenses picture quality is great. And L lenses will hold their value when it's time to sell. Two cons: my 6D had a hard time processing "reds"- reds tend to be over saturated and sometimes neon like and the camera is not weather sealed. You can desaturate "red" in post but can't do much about the lack of weather sealing if that's important to you. I sold my Canon gear for Nikon gear. Really can't go wrong with either.

I have one and love the low light capabilities as well as the full frame sensor. Sometime you will capture a photo you like but the subject is quite far away, well the photos from the 6D will allow a huge crop with a little bit of noise. you just remove it with LR. One draw back is the burst speed FPS is as high as my 7D but who cares. It just takes fabulous photos

Would someone please explain why the only time I hear people defend pop up flash is when they do not have one? This makes little, if any sense.,
