Outstanding image! I love the dark water background and how the sun highlights the surfer and brings a glow to the water spray.

Yeah PAphotoman, the water is the part that takes my eye to it.

Spectacular. He has a cowl of water light following him. Any special set up or all timing?

To answer your question CliffC, I found a new way to do post production work on my photos that are single shots and not HDR with multiple shots. I still use Photomatix to work the image but I do it in tone mapping where you don't need multiple photos. Here is a sample of the same photo before and after so you can see how the image was enhanced. Greg (another UHH member) just told me about it.

This is a terrific image Brent, in any league.
My tendency is to view a photo as a a whole and this has, for me, huge impact.
Separating all the elements -- you have got, sharpness, detail, color, composition, exposure etc. etc. going for you. This is the result of skill and craftsmanship on your part, and not just simply luck.

Pierre

Thanks so much PierreH. The luck part is that the spray from the cutting turn, the lighiting, my timing. It all happens so fast that there is an element of luck to capture ALL of the elements came together in one image.

That is a super shot. As per your discussion luck grows out of doing the heavy lifting first.

And by heavy lifting, I presume you mean doing my homework?
Thanks for saying it's a super shot. I wish I could shoot like this all the time! I could go PRO!

Yep, "the more I practice the luckier I get" quote comes to mind. I like the original but the manipulated one has great visual impact. Thanks for bringing us a sport as an art form.

I love your saying Calsnap.
Thanks for mentioning the sport as an art form. That is exactly how I perceive it.

Outstanding! You really caught the movement of the water and the surfer's skillful balancing. Great job!

Thank you very much pastagal. I shot photos for about 3 hours and this was my best image by far. Patience is a virtue!
