I am still a bit confused on which thread to post photos when you want suggestions for improvement. I want advice opinions and critique.

Photo Critique & Analysis Forum will be a good fit.

Use the Search facility at the top of the page if you can't locate it.

It helps to post the original, so that we can pixel peep :-)
First, I'd probably crop or clone out the tree branches on the right side. It also appears a bit underexposed. I know you were trying to preserve the highlights, but there are no details in the bridge pillars.

I like the composition very much. Nice line of the bridge to lead you into the exciting city nightlife.

The branches on the right side detract a little for me, so possibly you can clone them out. There's also a dot of light on left side sky (crane?) that I'd remove.

I don't shoot much at night so can't help re technical improvements for exposure and such.

Below is a link to the critique and analysis section. For me, following other folks' topics in there has been a great learning experience. Hope you enjoy it too :)

I think it is time for me to learn Post work. Unfortunately I don't think I have this one in RAW file either. As for the original file it is on my desktop along with other photos I would post for review and not with me while I have some free time at work :-(

the object upper left was the moving aircraft :-)

I was trying to see what it was in the left corner...hence needing to view the original file...I thought it was a smudge on my screen at first :-)

PP software is a game changer...I suggest looking at LR (Lightroom). A very powerful tool.

I only recently started believing and you know how annoying the newly converted can be :)

The free Picasa, by Google, is an easy way to get your feet wet, though if you're shooting raw, you must have some program you're editing with already.

I bought PS Elements 12 last month, and without much previous experience with those types of programs, have found it a joy to learn.

I would clone out the tree branches and crop a little at the top of the image. The sky is empty. Perhaps crop so the horizon line is about 1/3 of the way up.

Elements has a tool called Shadow/highlight. Perhaps you could coax a little detail out of the shadows without adding objectionable noise to the image.

No I just started shooting with both jpg and raw so I can save the raw files for later. Aside from that I have only used the standard photo edit for basics on the Windows 7 using the jpg files.

Thank you,
There are a lot of choices to research when deciding which direction to go. I have considered lightroom, Gimp etc.

It is best to decide where you want to start

Gimp is free and has a lot of power but for most it is not the easiest of programs to learn.

Picasa is free, simple to use but does not have layers.

Photoshop Elements can do most things as can Corel Paint Shop Pro

Lightroom is a File Management program with a great capability for raw conversion and retouching, but no layer capability.

Photoshop is the bee's knees for image manipulation but is very expensive and there is a lot to learn.

The best combination (in my opinion) is Lightroom + Elements or Photoshop.

If you are new to post processing, I would suggest you try one or two of the free processors and you will soon discover which way to head.

Your thread is, but my link was to critique/analysis. It's unfortunate the word "analysis" is in both forum titles.
