So this is a photo that's been giving me a bit of frustration for a while. It's not of much importance to me, but it's an interesting PP challenge.
I took this after a friend had shot a few pictures and I didn't realize he had set my camera to shutter priority at 1/3200, so I ended up exposing at ISO 2000, getting a lot of noise, and faded colors. (he also set the picture style to my Technicolor Cinestyle preset, which I reserve for tweaking on video shoots, so colors are faded at all ISOs.) I recently tried fixing it up in GIMP (That's all my budget can take, no Lightroom here), and I just can't quite make them pop. Any suggestions? or did the high shutter speed/ISO (and Cinestyle - in case you're wondering, never use Cinestyle for stills) just mess it up too much?

Yes....Perfect Photo Suite 8......not too expense and a wonderful program. Also, you can find past versions of Photoshop Elements cheap. I just bought PSE12 from Adorama for $45.

I just adjusted the black and white points very little (in PS), I don't know if this is more to your liking, it's not a big change, one could go a lot further.

Where did you find this price? I just looked at their web site and could not find this kind of price! Any help will be appreciated.

hello Ricardo...I checked your pic for skin tone values and the magenta values are to varying degrees higher than the yellow values on both subjects...reversing/adjusting these and other tonal values will probably improve how you react to the picture...here is a nice tutorial source:
http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/93363

PS...just checked some of the processed examples ...stopped at MikeIrby's submission...if you like that example (tonal values are adjusted) then the above tutorial will help you...plus he took care of some of the skin imperfections ...probably a must especially for female portraits :{)

Hi Ricardo
That's a lovely shot of the 2 beautiful ladies and I am sure they would like a copy. I didn't see the noise that you said it had. Anyway, I had a go at it with PS5 and here is my version. As all the other posters have shown, it can certainly be altered to make it pop. I've played with the colour balance, brightness, contrast, saturation to give it a slightly warmer tone. Other adjustments include toning down the sky, removing blemishes, sharpening the eyes only and blurring the whole image, and tidying up the background and flying hairs. I've cropped it to a 10x8 format.
If you wish to have the larger jpg file, PM me with your email. Thanks for allowing us to play with it.

I removed some blemishes, whitened the teeth, removed the fly-away hairs, got rid of the Chromatic Abberation around the head & tree line, added some color, increased contrast, deepened blacks, reduced whites, offset white balance, and added a hint of Gaussian Blur. Total time was only about 8 minutes. I wanted to straighten the goal in the background, but that's a bit of a headache. Leveling it would crop out the girls, so that wasn't an option.

Wow! What AMAZING talent we have here on UHH!
With all of the different renditions, how can you possibly choose one?
Maybe let the two young Ladies decide which one they like the best??
I was going to offer some work, but humbled by the work of others.
Great effort guys!

Why such a high shutter speed? If you don't like manual, you might have done better to shoot at f8 to f11 in aperture priority. this would have given you a little more contrast to begin with. A better choice for a shot like that would have been something like 1/250 sec f8 400 ISO. I know that shooting in the open shade can be tricky but, unless that was an action shot, I see no reason for such a high shutter speed or ISO. The pose is great and the models are beautiful. Artistically a good shot. Maybe crop out some of the empty space above their heads. Sorry, after typing all this, I just read the part where you blamed your friend. He should be thwacked soundly for playing with your settings.

Hello Ricardo...if you agree with Bram Boy...do look at the link I provided up above... it provides a good tutorial... as far as additional touch ups I would tone down the shadows on the right side a little further, clean up the left eye (outside shadow on lower lid and the white reflection on the inside right)...touch up does take a little bit of time...but like it was suggested up above, ask the girls to choose :{)

PS His evaluation of the submitted pics :{)
