First, Merry Christmas to all and may you be blessed with family & memories.

I seem to need to go get my camera or it is home when I want to take photo.
Where does everyone keep their cameras?
Do you always carry camera "just in case of opportunity"?
Do you plan shooting trip and then take camera?
Do you just have extra camera(s) for outdoors & studio?
Or, what else am I missing?

Thanks,
Regis

Regis,

I have two Canon DSLRs (5D MKII & 7D) with a bunch of lenses. Unfortunately, that's a lot of gear to haul around. I also have three Sony mirrorless cameras; NEX-7, again with a bunch of lenses, an RX 1 & an RX-100II. They're all very light. I keep the NEX-7 in a small pack that I can grab on my way out the door when I might take some serious shots but don't want to carry the weight of the Canons.

The RX 1 is a fixed lens but it's some serious hardware; full frame Exmor sensor, 24MP & Zeiss 35mm f2.0 lens.

The RX-100II is a true pocket camera and arguably the best in its class with a 1" 20MP Exmor sensor, & Zeiss 10-37mm f1.8-4.9 zoom lens (24-100mm in 35mm equivalence).

I'm going to be spending Christmas with my family tomorrow & will most likely just take the RX 1 & RX-100II; all indoor shots.

Photogdog

RX-100II: f4.0, 1/640", ISO 160
RX-100II: f4.0, 1/640", ISO 160...

RX-100II, f4.0, 1/640", ISO 160 Cropped
RX-100II, f4.0, 1/640", ISO 160 Cropped...

Regis, br br I have two Canon DSLRs (5D MKII &... (show quote)

That is pretty amazing for the weakest (??) of your cameras (RX100II). (BTW-originall from Irwin, Pa and hunted some near New Kensington in late 50's)

Thanks again to everyone. I'm going to have to get a take-everywhere camera so I have something ready for the "unplanned".

Merry Christmas.

I never leave home without at least one camera & lens but usually take more so I'm prepared. I keep my camera bags in coolers to protect from extreme temperatures.

There's pretty good hunting in this area. I'm actually in Upper Burrell which is a few miles away from New Kensington & it's mostly rural. A couple of years ago I almost took out my front end dodging a doe that jumped out in front of me while I was driving back home on Markle Road just below the Alcoa Tech Center. My super & his son built a tree stand behind our apartments and have taken 7-8 deer from it about 100 yards from where I'm sitting!

I take a camera everywhere i go, But not always a lot of gear, body and a prime lens normally, and stick one lens in my cup holder. Like a 70/300

Me Too re coolers. In real cold weather or if I will be outside and away from the car for a long period I might even put in a chemical hand warmer in the Styrofoam cooler.

Regis: I'm gonna jump in here again with another comment. I love my micro-four-thirds cameras. But sometimes even they are "too big." So I keep in the pocket of my jacket a Panasonic ZS20 bridge camera (http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-Sensitivity-Digital-Camera-Optical/dp/B00728ZBA2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1387914478&sr=8-1&keywords=panasonic+zs20). If you're thinking about a take-everywhere camera, this is one (with a 20x optical zoom) you should at least consider. At Amazon for under $200.

My best camera is the one that is with me. I've told that to enough other people over the years that there's always one wise-ass asking me which one I'm carrying at the moment.

That usually means the Canon G15 if I'm not planning to shoot anything or anyone in particular, or a Nikon body with the appropriate f/2.8 lens if I am.

Why? Your avatar is quite nicely done. Nothing wrong with it, as far as I can tell.

I keep a Canon PowerShot S95 in my purse. I can adjust aperture and speed or do manual. It has some of the features of my Canon 60D and doesn't take up much room.

I keep a point-and-shoot in my foot well in my gunsafe near my M1911. Sometimes, shoot means different things, after all....

I tote my SLRs when I'm going somewhere I want to remember.

a year ago the cameras never left the house unless there was a fee involved. Now that i'm re-discovering that shooting can be fun i keep a D3100 with 18-55 in the glove box and the D7100 with 24-120 days or 50/1.8 evenings on the seat beside me.

By keeping it in the glove box, don't you worry about what temperature the camera is exposed to? Whether it's too hot or too cold?
