I've seen quite a few posts about people losing stuff due to SD cards going bad, corrupting.. etc... since I have been a member here... and I feel for all of them. That would be awful.
I want to first start with this just to keep me safe.. "Knock on wood"... lol
I have never lost anything from an SD card (I do backups a lot, but that's irrelevant if the SD card doesn't work to begin with when inserted into your computer). How many of you have never lost anything due to an SD card going bad?... literally nothing...ever?
I've never had a problem yet. Wondering how many of you have literally never had an SD card problem that caused you to lose files. I'm hoping a lot of you.

Can't say "never". I lost a whole video shoot yesterday because an SD card, which love to fail, did so... wish I could say never.

Fail how? Just wondering! Physically fail? Read/write fail? Images disappear, fail? What? Again just wondering. Never had one fail physically. If there was a failure it was due to my imcompetance of use.

Never yet -- always a first time, I guess. Been using memory cards for 10-12 years now. Have always purchased what I believed to be quality merchandise from legitimate dealers. I've always used SanDisk cards.

I have never lost any files from my SD cards. I have two cameras using them, one Panasonic point and shoot and one Nikon DSLR. From what I have read on this form, these cards seem to be very dependable.

I have yet to lose anything on an SD card.Fell into a stream once, the camera would not work again but the SD card was fine.Just today I mistakenly washed an 8 gig card out of my secondary camera and passed in through the dryer also.Found it in the bottom of the dryer, but it back in the d7000 and it works fine.Had one come apart on me once.Took it back in and they replaced it.

So far so good, never lost anything but have to say its only been a few years for digital SD and CF cards, I only use San Disk seems to be working, I know others swear by other brands also.
I do keep the cards after transfer to computer and never erase them, just another form of backup I guess, my computer did die and had to go to the shop but the information, photos were still on hard drive.

hi folks,

okay, now you know i do not use digital, but film. even so, i do know a couple of professionals. their method to avoid card failure is to use 3 or 4 cards, swapping them out every now and then during an assignment. that way, if one does go bad, they have not lost out on their total production.
hope this is of some assistance.

On a trip, I had a card refuse to continue to work after I had just about filled it up. This was a major brand card and not very old. Luckily I had another. Thought first set of photos was lost. When I got home, I searched the internet and tried various recovery software. The only one that worked and gave me all my photos was cardrecovery.com
They saved my day and my vacation.

Have never lost anything from an SD card and do not even want to think about it. My worst nightmare.

I know this does not directly address your question, however a good card story here. I had a CF card go 'AWOL' after a shoot (was only messing about so no big deal loss of images). Found it weeks later in a 'secret' zippered pocket of my trousers. It had been through countless washings whilst 'AWOL'. Stuck it in my computer expecting to see nothing but bubbles but Viola.... all my images!!!:-D Even the washing machine couldn't 'clean' my card - I'm still using it. Says something about the physical strength of these things.

Thanks achammar for a very interesting post.

Started digital in 2005 and never had any problems with sd cards. Have had problems with CF card readers getting bent pins and have only used CF for 6 months.
