I bought a six-pack of SD's at Fry's; I was SO shocked when none worked. Imagine, defective products at Fry's! LOL

This is a unique question of curiosity and to calculate my odds (and for fun)...
I've seen quite a few posts about people losing stuff due to SD cards going bad, corrupting.. etc... since I have been a member here... and I feel for all of them. That would be awful.
I want to first start with this just to keep me safe.. "Knock on wood"... lol
I have never lost anything from an SD card (I do backups a lot, but that's irrelevant if the SD card doesn't work to begin with when inserted into your computer). How many of you have never lost anything due to an SD card going bad?... literally nothing...ever?
I've never had a problem yet. Wondering how many of you have literally never had an SD card problem that caused you to lose files. I'm hoping a lot of you.

I've never lost a file that was recorded on one but I've had a card not record a shot from my dSLR twice and that card is no longer in use. That never happened again after that. So, you could say I never lost a file because of a card but I didn't retain two shots because they never got recorded. Does that count?

PNY's with serial numbers, but, yes, obviously counterfeit. What really toasted Fry's was that, between check-out and the exit (where they check your receipt), I wrote "FAKES; WON'T WORK" on the receipt and the young lady on duty marked over my comment with her pink Marks-A-Lot without even looking. When I returned the cards for a refund, I asked them to take a look at the receipt; it was obvious the mark was over my comment (they had even smudged the ink in my comment). There were a bunch of red faces at Fry's that day. They tried them in two cameras, a computer and two lab testers; after the first two failed, they brought out the second test device. I did see one employee taking my picture. Other people must have thought I was crazy (you all know it, right?) because I laughed all the way to my car. It is indeed a happy day when I can catch Fry's in one of their many scams. I can't imagine how they stay open.

Thanks marcomarks,
I would say if the card never recorded the shot, and you are sure it was because of the card being faulty, (which it sounds like it was since it never happened again with new cards, but you are the one that knows most likely where the fault was), then I would say that was because of a bad card, so in that scenario, that would count. If a card does not record a shot (and it's entirely the cards fault), that's kind of the same as losing it. Thanks for sharing that!

That's awesome David. That's good to hear. You are not the first to say you've used cards for so many years and never lost anything, so koodos to all of you that have had the same luck. I hope (and expect) to have the same good fortune. I am very careful and only use the best cards, and very careful with everything...so I hope the extra effort pays off for many years... just like it has for so many of you :-)

I lost a whole set in the middle of a shoot. The numbers didn't reset, so it was not a format problem, but neither my camera nor my computer could find a whole day worth of vacation pictures prior to 3 PM. No clue why. Didn't change anything. Didn't remove card from camera.

Just to clarify what I posted earlier... I also have taken all the precautions mentioned and re-format with every download (in-camera) No matter - The wedding photos I lost disappeared in transfer to my hard drive.

Occasional losses must be a problem, because the new replacement SD cards include reclamation SW.

If you've not lost anything, be thankful. Those losses can be catastrophic.

great post! as i've said previously, while it doesn't happen to thousands of people, when it does it can be disasterous. this is why i always recommend a digital user go 3 deep on cards, changing them frequently during image making. so, if corruption occurs, you still have 2 cards of viable images. hope this never happens again!

BTW, At least the Nikon manuals say to insert the card into a reader, rather than downloading directly from the camera, as I used to do.
Just to clarify what I posted earlier... I also ha... (show quote)
