Thanks Mike, that does look better with her face lighter :) I still have a lot to learn and know this section will help those of us who want to learn how to improve our skills by learning from others. Much appreciated :)

Thank you MtnMan, I've just started taking photos in RAW so this will also help me with editing. Appreciate your input on this.

RAW images lack the picture processing your camera applies to jpegs. They all need those adjustments for white balance, brightness, saturation, sharpening, contrast, and hue. I have a Lightroom preset that applies them to RAW images on import. It gives me a better starting point.

I didn't fix the bright spot on the doggie's eye on this one. I'd have to go to Photoshop to get that right.

Good job of lighting the face, but the coloration is off. You need to add some warmth or use a Photo filter to make it more flesh-colored.

Yes, I see that posted here. It didn't show up so much in Lightroom. I took down the yellow saturation to reduce that thing in the back and it affected the face.

I see so much emotion in the dog as well...I might try cropping a bit on the left

Thank you all again for working with this and giving me better insite to the photo prosessing and what it can do for me. The photo posted is a jpeg, I didn't get a chance to play with the RAW one yet, but I'm enjoying this critique and analysis forum very much. There is so much information to be learned and I can't thank you enough for sharing with us :)

Wonderful choice of subject matter. However, the focus seems to be just a bit soft, and it's not like you can go back and recapture such a fleeting moment (I, for one, will be ecstatic when someone learns to correct camera blur/focus issues ). If possible, the ladies face needs some mix of the following attributes: brighter, sharper, more contrast so that she will be as good looking as her dog companion.

I agree with all of the above. In addition, I find the background quite distracting--reflection in the mirror not being related to the subject, colors, etc. Perhaps a larger aperture to blur the background, or, alternatively, doing in in pp.
