Hi all,
Am slowly getting back to photographing the obedience classes (rotator cuff surgery and therapy going much better) and just happened to catch this moment of love between student and her pup. Wanting to do my very best and all help is appreciated.
Thank you in advance
Debbie

Canon 7D, f-stop F/5, Exp. 1/80 sec., ISO 3200 (set for Auto) Focal Length 150 mm., no flash. Have started shooting in Jpeg and RAW

I just fell in love with the emotion she has for her pup.

If i force myself I can keep my eyes where they are supposed to be however the legs in the background keep distracting me. Maybe move the crop over to the pillar that way all the focus is on the emotion you wanted to capture. I'm new so i could be wrong but I think that would help. Beautiful doggie, nice catch. :)

Strong, well composed evocative photograph that tells a story. If you do post processing you may wish to remove some distractions within the frame, otherwise just enjoy a good image. 8-)

Thank you Bmac, I'm going to look at it again when I get home from work, but thank you for your comments. Much appreciated.

Wonderful choice of subject matter. However, the focus seems to be just a bit soft, and it's not like you can go back and recapture such a fleeting moment (I, for one, will be ecstatic when someone learns to correct camera blur/focus issues ). If possible, the ladies face needs some mix of the following attributes: brighter, sharper, more contrast so that she will be as good looking as her dog companion.

When you have less than a second to grab a shot like this, all the other considerations are trivial and irrelevant.
Bmac said it best. Let's enjoy this.
One of your best shots Debbie.

I recommend brightening your subject, in particular the woman's face, and darkening and blurring the background.

You might also pump the clarity to make the subjects pop.

lovemypups - what a great scene. I think that would make a terrific wall hanging but I think it'd need a few distractions reduced first.
I find two major things, the first being the bright white post and the second the fact that the woman's face/head are a bit indistinct.
I don't think cloning the post out would be an option. I think I'd probably select the whole post and try dropping the exposure on it until it no longer grabs attention. Then I'd do the same with the head (increasing the exposure)until her face and the dog's become the centre of attention.

Couldn't resist it! I'm short of time but this is the idea. I also made nonsense of the legs by cloning and cropped part of them out. Not suggesting you crop yhe picture.
If you do go this way take a look at the background highlight at the woman’s top lip. That’d need to be dealt to as well.

To compare them I suggest you open a folder on your desktop to use as a destination for them and download them to there. Change their names by adding a letter or number to each’s name (XXXa, XXXb etc . They’ll drop into that alphabetical (numerical? order so you can open a photo and see the changes instantly as you go to the next one. If you want you can add all the other edit contributions and do the same.. I often do that. The same shots with edits will look as though only the edits change. Right before your eyes!

Much better!

May need to burn that bright spot in the doggies eye. No clue what it is.

Thank you MtnMan, I've just started taking photos in RAW so this will also help me with editing. Appreciate your input on this.
