I personally would go with Canon. Just had the mirror on a 5D fall off. They repair it under recall - pickup shopping both ways. A acquittance had a 5D and samething happen. He had so many acquisitions they repair it but there was a cost. I believe it was like $200 or so and at the same time the replace they complete shutter assembly. When they repair mine I received a complete new mirror, the old one was returned.

If there is a enough "damage for repairs" Canon has a very good "used cameras". Camera and lens sent out to dealers or Canon reps to be use at trade shows and ect. and then returned to the Canon which they can not be sold for new.

I look at this way that you can not be a "jack of all camera repairs".

Wait! I have personal experience (just recently) with this company. I won't boar you with the long list of complaints however I would give serious consideration in giving your repair to someone else. The major issue with them is the lack of communication internally, their website claims authorized repair center for all major brands but had to send my camera (Pentax) to the manufacturer. Also, the expectation built was to repair my camera in 4-6 weeks and the cost, $200. It actually took 9 weeks and ended up costing $290. No one could give me a status update even after 6 weeks. As for my lens, a Sigma they again are supposed to be authorized for repairs and told me it was going back to the manufacturer for repair. What actually happened was they kept it and deemed it didn't need repair and finally shipped it back to me after 4 weeks. You can begin to see my frustration and their lack of internal communication. Hope this helps to uncover the company they really are.

They're not related. Precision Camera in Austin is locally owned and operated. (Have you been to their new location on Anderson Lane? Just nail my credit card to the ceiling!)

If this Precision Camera is associated with the store in Austin,TX, then you have nothing to worry about. I have purchased equipment and had great advice from them. They have been in business for a long time and don't make you feel unimportant if all you need is some filters and or buying a camera. They have a great reputation. Hope this helps.

Yes I have and your right, they need to put mine up there too! Great atmosphere and incredible inventory. When I was researching the D7100, the sample camera was handed around 4 times to perspective customers within 10 mins. And yes I bought one! They also say that they did NOT increase their inventory, the old store was just that crammed full! LOL!

Yes. They are a major company with hundreds of employees in at least 2 locations that I know of. They have contracted with many major manufacturers as well as other companies for warranty repair work.

Once again go direct to the manufacture of the product
= Better Service [ in my humble opinion ]

Precision Camera was for many years located in Chicopee, Massachusetts and enjoyed a good reputation. A few years ago they moved to Enfield, Connecticut (I believe the company was sold by the original owners) and since that time their reputation has suffered.

Yes I was their around Easter week of this year great store. I did not know they were not the same company so sorry? However this is a great place to shop for cameras and other thing again it is very professional store to deal with, every time I'm in the Austin area I stop in and purchase something because it's full line photography store.
