This is an actual Mattel commercial from the 60's.

Consider the fact that school shootings were unheard of in those days.

When I was a kid in the sixties, we played army and cowboys and indians. Now I have real guns. None of them have ever killed anyone.
So before we start this tired old debate, someone please outline their plan to disarm the criminals in this country.

End rant here.

I was in high school in the early fifties if I drove into the school parking lot with my rifle in the gun rack of my pickup the principal would want to see it we would talk about hunting till time to go to class.

Today if a student pulls onto school property with a gun the school goes on lock down they call 911 local police respond plus sheriff and state police.
They will activate the swat team and take you to jail.
All students will be offered therapy
Most will be considered harmed for life.

Yep the times are a changing. I will let you decide if it is for the better.

Mike, I do realize that. So far I have only heard plans to disarm law abiding citizens but never a plan to disarm criminals.
This subject keeps coming up on other forums and I'm just expressing my opinion.
If some else is anti-guns, fine. Last I heard, everyone is entitled to an opinion. I've just grown tired of this endless debate.

Thanks Mike

When I went to school in a little one-room schoolhouse in the Ozarks, a lot of boys would bring a shotgun to school and leave it in the coat hanging area until time to go home. They would hunt rabbits and squirrels for the night's dinner. Also the girls would bring a "poke sack" to gather poke, dock and dandelion greens for the same reason. Not sure if it was better or worse, but NO ONE got shot at our school.

Ah, yes. The Good Old Days! When you could beat your kids and wife and it was no one's business except yours. When you could drive drunk and kill a few and it was chalked off to "Boys will be boys! Ah, yes, the Good Old Days.

I grew up on a farm in East Tennessee and lived about a mile from school. My Grandfather would tell me, "Put the plow on the tractor and tomorrow after school stop at John's house and plow his garden. He will give you $2.00".
And I would, and the next day do the disc thing. I would most times not be the only tractor parked at school during the day.
Today, I would have to schedule through smart phone, have a credit card reader with me, and hope Pa had enough $$$ to bail me out when I was arrested for who knows what outrageous law I might have broken.
It be sad times, eh???

My parents were married over fifty years and never once did either of those things happen in our family, so maybe those WERE the Good Ol' Days.

You think these things don't happen today in our "enlightened Progressive" society? I would guess as much, if not more, than ever!
