LED ring flash is a bit of a misnomer. I've never used one but I'm sure they're fine if you're using a tripod and your subject isn't moving about. I'm not sure how useful they'd be when chasing bugs.

Hey saying something that someone buys is crap is let's face it impolite. People here buy many things I would not touch but I would never say to their faces they are crap because. A. They bought it and. B others may be considering it. Offer constructive reasons why you would not buy OK but crap is just rude
Just because we don't all want or can afford what others use does not make what we have or use crap
Plenty of links like the ones I attached show how good they are
Also if I were contemplating macro and found I didn't like it. What a reasonable cost way to find out
Supported me. Yes. Thank you. Many many have. I receive PMS almost daily from members and the people are great. I hate no one here pity perhaps. And thank you also

You have the ability to hijack and turn any thread or any post, no matter how innocuous, into a drama involving some inane imagined affront to yourself. I neither hate nor pity you, just think you are a naturally mean insecure fellow who craves attention. 8-)

Hello All,
I am curious if anyone has any experience with the Yongnuo Yn-14EX macro ring flash. I was researching ring flashes for my Canon 100mm macro lens and came upon Yongnou's answer to the Canon MR-14EX. Any thoughts/experiences as always are greatly appreciated.

I've just been looking at the Yn-14EX macro ring flash on ebay. I don't know your finances but would say at that price it's worth a go. Check first that it has an adapter to fit your lens.
I have several ring/point flashes. They are all from the 80's & 90's & work perfectly with all of my DSLR's... Most only cost around $25...Less than the LED ring light I got, but way more powerful& versatile...

Not everyone can afford to spend several hundred on a flash that may not even be used that much.
I was given a LED ring flash for a present and experimented with it. The pictures are not perfect but certainly did what I wanted reasonably well. I could get a flash for 20x as much - but would the pictures be 20x better? Would I use it enough to warrant the cost?
The answer to both questions is no!

I bit the bullet and got one from ebay. And it has the right adapter to my lens.

This may be the answer to everyone who could not afford dumb Cannik money.
How do you find it

I'll let you know once it arrives.
I received the ring flash the other day and I wasn't really that surprised. The quality is there. Well made, easy to mount and use, came with 4 different adapter rings and a nice case. Now I can't compare this to a Canon ring flash directly, and I have not taken any serious macro shots with it yet, but I have mounted it on the camera and put it through all it's paces and programs and in the end, WOW! For roughly 1/5 the cost of a Canon, I'm impressed and quite pleased! Now, as soon as my current work load eases up a bit I'm going to take some shots with it and see what happens!
