A good place to look for both camera and lens is Amazon.com. They sell equipment used, and I have had great luck when I buy in the category "Used ..... like New". Amazon has a great return policy if you're not satisfied, and you can normally save at least 20% off retail, sometimes better. If you're patient, you can watch a certain lens for a few months, until the price comes down, then strike. I, too have used the Canon 70-40L on both APS-C and FF cameras .... it is truly a great lens. But then, I succumbed to lens lust and purchased the 16-35 as well. Great at landscapes, it also does extremely well shooting indoors, using natural light with a high ISO.
Your shots are great.... What software do you use?

I consider myself as being a Photo Enthusiast; not a Professional. Ive been snapping pictures since being a kid (Kodak Box Brownie, Argus C3, etc.). Got into interchangeable lenses (Canon) about three years ago. I presently use a Canon 60D which I love for its versatility and I will keep it for a backup. Now, in my old age I will be doing mostly travel and landscapes and I am considering a full frame Canon with a zoom lens with emphasis on wide FOV (small mm). I have a Canon EF-S 10mm 22 mm which is great with the 60D but not adaptable to a FF.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/104410459@N08/ I am considering purchasing a refurbished Canon 5D MkII along with a refurbished Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L.
I am not familiar with the other brands (Tamron, etc.) of competitive equivalent lens and would appreciate comments from owners of same. Incidentally, I favor 77mm filter sizes on most of my lens.

I have the 24-105 and the 16-35 and use both on a Canon 7D and 5D ll. Love both conbinations. I tried shooting macro with the 16-35 on both cameras and was pleasantly surprised. This is something I learned from Brian Peterson.

I like my 24mm 2.8 L series prime. A 24 to 70 is good but the 17-40 is a good choise. Also, if you ant a FF get it.. There are many good reasons to have a FF. I have two. No conversion factors, better color, better low light, lens work correctly., better ability to crop. I like crop frames but they are part of the frame you are taking. If you want the same perspective then you crop it to the same parameterss as the crop frame has.
Anyway, all of the lens mentioned are good depending on what you are shooting.
