Kerry, very colorful.......afternoon sunset light?

Hi Brent! Thanks for stopping by ;) - the color comes naturally up here this
time if year. I'm not far enough along in "Classroom in a Book" to get fancy. The book was a great recommendation for me - many aha moments as I work through it - thank you so much! This is late afternoon light.

NO WAY!!!! Without the dog you would never succeed!! Don't you know he was the TOTAL inspiration for all that beautiful photography?? You would never have found that perch, or that beautiful waterline, or those gorgeous trees without his help. Why do you think he's so tuckered at the end of the day?? It's from keeping you on the straight and narrow all day to make certain you made the best photos possible. I know this because I have one that treats me the same way. Shucks, I couldn't even push the button if she wasn't there to tell me when and how!! :) :) :) :)
And a visit to Maine, to a rocky coastline, is on my bucket list. 'Til then I'll visit vicariously through your lovely photos. Thanks for sharing!!

NO worries Singing Swan - Hap would never allow me to leave him behind. He knows I need an assistant - he just doesn't stay on task well - but then neither to I - ha! Ha!

I'm glad you enjoyed our outing and hope you really do make it to Maine someday! Thanks again for taking a peek and commenting ;)

Yesterday here in Maine, it was one of those seize-the-moment-days; so I grabbed my camera and with my shadow, Hap, close on my heels, went out for a landscape/foliage shoot. Why does he always think it is all about him?? So the would-be serious landscape photography deteriorated into frenzied fun... :) Here are a few results. Taken with my Panasonic GH3, 12-35mm F2.8 lens. C & C very welcome, especially would appreciate pointers on the back-lit shot - thanks!

Very very nice kerfree, love the colors and Hap

some beautiful shots there. I always love going to Maine for vacation, and have been there dozens of times but never in the fall. Maine is a beautiful state as these pictures show.

Lucky you, living in such a beautiful place.

You wanted C&C, so I would say that most of your shots could do with a touch of "Lighten Shadows" or your PP equivalent. Since all of your shots are like that, is it possible that you have your monitor's brightness set too high?

As for the backlit shot, does your GH3 have in-camera HDR? My Panasonic LF1 does, and it does a fine job of those sort of light conditions. Somebody's going to say that bracketing is another possibility, but if you're like me you'll favour the simplest answers :D .

Wonderful images, Kerry - full of joy and beauty.

I admire your wanting to acquire some serious pp skills, but I was able to pull a little detail in Hap's face using just Picasa and Photo Gallery (Windows 8 version) :)

Thank you, Linda! It is beautiful here now in your home state!

That is very good to know about Picasa, and is probably true with what I use - Aperture. I'll give that photo another try. But as long as I have to be at my computer for work, being out shooting, when I can, will always trump spending even more time at my computer to become proficient with post processing... so the learning curve is snail's-pace!

Thank you so much Gregory! I am glad you like Hap because he is heading your way next week! We are driving 27 hours to Sanibel, just so Hap can come too.... He is not spoiled at all, lol!
I'm looking forward to early morning photo walks on the beach, hope I can get a few seabirds, half as nice as yours!!!

I love the first shot and the last shot, Kerfree. That doggie portrait is a "money" shot!

R.G., I am most appreciative of your critique! Yes, my GH# does have in camera HDR - I should have used it for several of these shots - but didn't think to - I'll blame Hap, Ha! Ha!
You are right, that would have been a big help and it is good to know you like it on your LF1!

As far as the color/contrast, yes my monitor was set a little bright, but I also have a tendency to get a little color/contrasty happy.

Thank you so much for taking my request for critique to heart - I'll keep both your points in mind and hopefully grow as a photographer from them. Thank you!

Thank you Nightsk for stopping by and letting me know which ones work for you! Hap will be pleased, Ha! Ha!

I very much enjoy your posts both the images and the narratives of your adventures, and I'm remiss in not stopping and saying so more often!
