So that copied everything on your drive - a mirror copy?

Yes it did. It was not expensive and extremely easy to use.

Acronis will erase your C:/ drive completely when you do a restore and then re-write your backup to the clean drive.

Plus you can backup individual folders, such as my complete E-Mail on E:/ drive along with all photos by INDIVIDUAL folders.

My C:/drive (750 gig) is Windows 7 ONLY
My E:/drive (1 TB) is active programs
My G:/drive (1 TB) is downloaded master files and backups, Web Sites and miscellaneous

Good morning Hoggers,
Does any one have any experience (good or Bad)with backing up there entire hard drive? I understand that this method will save all of your programs and registry settings.
Any help is appreciated.

There are a couple of problems with a mirror backup:

1. It is such a large backup that you might not do it regularly. If you have to restore from it, your information may be out of date.

2. You cannot restore everything from this backup to a different computer since some of the software may not be compatible.

You are better off simply backing up your own personal files (images and documents) to a separate hard drive. Lots of software is available to do this as an incremental backup (only stuff that was added or changed since the last backup).

An incremental backup is fast enough that you can set it up to run automatically on a regular schedule. This way you risk only your most recent work.

It will also easy to copy any of the backed up files to another computer.

After reading about this, I found my old copy of Acronis (2011)and installed it. The backing up is almost done. It's taking 1:44 to back up C: and the Recovery drive. Those were its default settings, so I let it run.

Of course, now I am dependent on Acronis because the files are compressed/encrypted, and only Acronis will be able to use them.

Now I'll have to buy a new computer and see if this transfer really works. :D

I use Acronis also. I do a mirror backup every Sunday night and let it run and shutdown my computer. monday morning when I turn it on my backup is on my External drive. I had to use it once due to a virus and it worked flawlessly. It took about 3 hours to completely overright the drive but thats a lot better than having to reload everything. I leave the external drive unplugged until I need it,that way there is no chance to screw up the mirror copy

I just did another backup to see how long it would take after doing the initial backup a couple of days ago. The first backup took 90 minutes, and today's took 45 minutes. That seems like an awful long time just for updating.

Absolutely. I had a virus a couple months ago. It struck 2 days after a full C:/ drive backup. Machine kept asking me for $300.00 because the FBI found child porn on my computer. Huh ????

I ran the Acronis Emergency CD and within 30 minutes my Laptop was back up running without a problem. My photos are on E:/ drive and backups are hosted on G:/ drive.

I hope the penicillin worked on your so called virus. You really should stay out of those "titty" bars down there in Florida. Oh! Never mind. You were referring to a computer virus. Sorry. My bad.

Hello, I usually had to save lots of private data and photos, but don’t rely on the external HDD plans. The online backup is one of the better option where I don’t have to worry about my data that it would be leaked. Before several times I lost my data which was saved to external memories. But the time being I am using CloudBacko Pro and the all my photos and files are secured without any fear of loosing data.

This is a long running topic but Acronis Backups can be transferred to a new computer according to their advertising.

Backups include currently running Windows Files so a backup runs perfect.

Backups can be differential, incrmental or complete, backing up files changed since your last backup or added.

I schedule mine to run early in the am while I'm sleeping.
