Nope. This is an SMC Pentax-DA*50-135. These lenses are expensive and have the "supersonic" focus motor. And I did not bang it around or drop it. Just defective and poor performance on repair. 3.5 months. As I said, just a caution. I have two K20D bodies and I still use them.

Greg:
Thanks for your posting this topic. I'm a faithful Pentax user (K5 and K01) and looking forward to the K3. There's no doubt it will blow away anything Canon or Nikon has in its price range or feature class. The Canon/Nikon DSLRs are the most common among the members, but not because they are the best. Sony, Pentax, Olympus, for example, market products, at least as good, if not better. Pentax came out on top in the 2012 J.D. Powers Buyers Satisfaction ratings. Frequently, technical and user reviews of the Sony, Pentax, Olympus DSLRs come out equal to and even ahead of the Can-Nik products.
So, here's a few suggestions for Pentax users to help get the word out:
1. Pentax users who post images on UHH need to state the Pentax model/lens in the descriptions they write in the posting.
2. When someone requests advice for "which camera to buy," point out that there a equal or better alternatives to the conventional Can-Nik entry and mid-levels.
3. When posting images taken with a Pentax, indicate the settings used (shutter, aperture, iso, etc.) and the features preferred.
4. If you come across an interesting article, review, document, or video concerning Pentax equipment, post the link on UHH.

My first "real" camera" was the K1000. I've been moving up the ladder ever since and have never regreted the decision. Never a problem (knock on wood) and am still using glass from from 1979. Definately a workhorse and worth every penny.

I've been using my K-10d for about a year now I love it, and still use all 3 of my film Pentax's once in a while. I'll have to wait awhile for the new K3, but it's on my list.

Shot this yesterday---straight out of my K10d and an aged Tamron 28/105 with a minimum of Picasa cropping---who needs to spend big bucks?

Why Would I Discard My K10d? Huh?"

"1. Pentax users who post images on UHH need to state the Pentax model/lens in the descriptions they write in the posting."

And Gramps agrees. I've grown accustomed to the "N/C" cult that believes the price of their toys passes and raises any use of camera's ability, operator's imagination and talent and just plain "Sometime it's better to be lucky than good" .

Thanks for the response.
Is that a DC3 under your name? I once co-piloted a DC3 from New Hampshire to Newport News, VA (in the '70s)?

Not only a DC3 but a very special one. It was Eisenhower's campaign plane, "The Eisenhower Special" captained by my father in law, Capt. George C Boice. Dad went on to type Strats, Super Connies and ended up left seat Electra. Those were the days when we had fun in that business!
Incidentally who'd you fly for? North East,Allegheny,MacAir, Pilgrim,MoHawk, Piedmont?
And I'm sure you are aware of someone, on the Left Coast was installing turbo props on 3's---can you imagine 300 Knots in a 3--- Whoopee!

I also preordered the Pentax K-3 from B&H with the 18-135 lens. Have been happy with the K-7 and the K-5.

When I co-piloted a DC3, I was on the faculty of a small private college in New Hampshire that had a flight training program, a DC3 and other aircraft, and its own airport! Every October, I took about 18 students on a weekend field trip to Williamsburg, VA, and once in a while, sat at the co-pilot's controls. It was an incredible sturdy and reliable aircraft. The 35mm film camera I used was a Petri (one of many Pentax K-mount clones).

Also, Thanks to the others who responded to my previous comments. To those who already pre-ordered the K3 -- I'm so envious, but I'll get my chance at some point!!

Bought a K-x a couple of years ago and in general I like the camera but there are basic things it doesn't have. Like a way to remotely fire the camera other than from the front. I have also noticed that even on Pentax's website and forum it is hard to find any mention of that model. Seems to be kind of the "red headed stepchild" of the family. (no offense meant). But what would you expect from someone that shot with a GAF - LES 35mm for many years.(still the equal of many Nikon's)

Story is that Ricoh is investing heavily into this brand, having gotten it for a song from Hoya. Their goal is to have Pentax regain its proper place at the head of the camera industry. With all that at stake they can't afford for this camera to be other than excellent.

A savvy new user may see Pentax cameras as bargains and jump in, but it's gonna be really tough to get Canon or Nikon users to switch. And with the DSLR market not growing, finding some elbow room in the marketplace is going to be hard.

As I said, I shoot Nikon but I'd love to see Pentax succeed. The more competition, the better for all of us.

Congratulations to your new toy, I think it is a terrific camera, a lot more features than you would get from Canon or Nikon at that price, but equal/or better in quality. Having 8.3fps. is special!
