why not a right to housing, food, car, education, job, welfare, etc., etc.??? I suggest that not everyone has a need for health care, but they do have a need for these other things every day. So, if health care is a right then certainly all these other necessities should be accorded right status, too, and be even higher on this list of priorities.

The only problem is, if you are entitled to anything that someone else has to pay for, then that person becomes your slave! Why is someone else required to provide you with anything? Is your right to someone else's property, money, time, knowledge and/or life greater than his right to keep what is his or hers? Is theft OK now?

There you go arguing with logic. You should be ashamed. You actually think that people should have to work for what they have and not be able to take what other people have worked for???Shame, Shame.

Really? Jesus also said "Render unto Caesar..." The idea that the government should be in the charity business is exactly what is wrong with the left wing in this country. Let charities be charitable, let the government govern.
And considering how often we hear complaints about violations of the "wall of separation" between church and state, to suggest that government should now use Jesus as a role model is somewhat disingenuous, don't you think?

"Life" "Liberty" & "Property" (Meant land and slaves changed to Pursuit of Happiness)

Health care falls under the "Life" although one could says how could you achieve happiness if you were ill.

You could make that argument, although it is a weak one. The real problem is that your quote comes from the Declaration of Independence, which is a great document, but not the law.

(Prov 6:6-15)
6 Go to the ant, O sluggard, Observe her ways and be wise,

7 Which, having no chief, Officer or ruler,

8 Prepares her food in the summer, And gathers her provision in the harvest.

9 How long will you lie down, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep?

10 "A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to rest"--

11 And your poverty will come in like a vagabond, And your need like an armed man.

12 A worthless person, a wicked man, Is the one who walks with a false mouth,

13 Who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet, Who points with his fingers;

14 Who with perversity in his heart devises evil continually, Who spreads strife.

15 Therefore his calamity will come suddenly; Instantly he will be broken, and there will be no healing.

Why do the Republicans try to speak for Jesus?
He was a liberal if I recall. Always speaking of taking care of the poor, the sick and the elderly.
Do you really think Jesus would support letting people suffer?
In a country as rich as this one, there is no excuse for people not having access to healthcare.
I would gladly pay more taxes to see that every child is fed, clothed and taken care of.

Who are you to speak for Jesus? Jesus was neither a Liberal nor a Democrat. He was against a government without freedoms. He was upset with the tax collectors. He would not be pleased with a Government that has locked him out.

Are you including the rights of the unborn Frank? You see both sides have their contradictions.

If you are healthy you have the chance to get all the other"rights" you mention by yourself. Health care is a matter of being human and no one should make business with the peoples health. I am not a communist, far...very far from that but if something should be socialized that is Healthcare. The government has ( or had ) a lot of money to help and sometimes to sustain unfriendly countries or a lot of money to expend on weapons. Why not to dedicate some % of the national budget to keep us,the people under a system that will provide help to the unfortunate in need?

Healthcare does not need to be soicalized... we do not need the government meddling in our health. It is not up to the government to take care of me, that is my responsibility. What the government can do is trim the fat off the pork and give back the money to the States.

Perfectly stated Budnjax! I believe that we all have a right to those things too, where we and the Liberal/progressives differ is that we believe we have a right to those things if we can acquire them honestly and without treading on the rights of others in our pursuit of getting them. The liberal/progressives believe that the government should take care of them from cradle to grave and supply them with those things at the expense of others. Just as you said, the tax payers become the slaves of the lazy.
