For wildlife you'll need all the zoom you can get. Have you thought about a tele converter ring for the 70-300.

Most of them seem cheap. I can't for the life of me think what advantage an expensive one might give :hunf:

Get a Tamron 1.4X for the back of the 70-300 and a XPRO 500 close up filter/diopter for the front. You will most likely be manually focusing with the 1.4X.

That is what the XPRO 500 is for. it is a +2 diopter 2 element multicoated close up lens OR if really want to get close (1:1) get the XPRO 280 in a filter size that will fit your 70-300.

Just My Opinion, your Nikon 70-300mm VR works just fine for wildlife. The trick is to learn your subject and get close. I have the same Camera and Lens. http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-122353-1.html,

For Macro I would go with the Tokina 100mm Lens. One of the sharpest on the market and it sells for $500, that's about half for the Nikon or Canon counterpart. http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-138334-1.html

The cheapest way to try macro is with extension tubes. Amazon offers a large selection.

I have the Canon 500 D and the XPRO - I like the XPRO - about the same price as the Canon's but the Canons can be hard to find in stock - and Nikon does not make theirs anymore !

Unfortunately, teleconverters don't work well with zooms. However, a 400mm with a 2x should be prime!! Actually, a cheaper version would be a 300mm f4 with a teleconverter, which is very similar to the way SwampGator shoots, except he shoots Canon.

If you like to do wildlife you need to take three deep breaths and save your money for a Sigma 150-500. If you search UHH you'll find many threads showing you why.

It was my first expensive (for me) lens ($990). The rest came easy after that...
