Robert Gates: US military action in Syria would be like throwing gasoline on an extremely complex fire in the Middle East. Havent Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya taught us something about the unintended consequences of military action once its launched?

Leon Panetta : Obama should have backed up his words with force and launched military strikes after the White House concluded that Assad had crossed a red line by using chemical weapons.

Robert Gates is close to the truth. He forgot TAKE ALL TROOPS OUT OF THE AREA.

I find myself in agreement with Gates. We don't understand the Muslim/radical Islamist mentality, just like we didn't understand our opponents in Vietnam. Sometimes we should just "sit down and mind our own business", something we're not too good at.

Gates has got it right, the president was willing to strike not because he wanted to, not because he thought it the right thing to do, but to save face. For no other reason, nothing good would come out of the strike, the damage that Obama has done is already done, a strike would not fix anything but would draw us deeper into a dangerous situation.

It would seen that both men are right in their opinions but I agree with Robert Gates. We have no idea what our actions may bring. No President should be so eager to get us into a war unless we are attacked like 9/11. China and Russia against the US would not have a very good outcome for us. War would surely come to our shores and I don't have enough ammo for my Glock.

Gates is on the ball - no matter who we support over there both sides are still going to be fighting 10,000 yrs from now and both side will still hate our Christian lifestyle.
Is that not what is happening in Iraq and several other places over there - don't forget Somalia.
