Help in choosing a scope for a beginner

I'm going to be staying in a friends cabin in the mountains and it overlooks a vast meadow. I'd like to take a telescope along to not only take advantage of the night sky but also see what wildlife plays in the meadow. I know nothing about telescopes and was wondering if anyone could help me. I have about a thousand dollars to play with but have no idea where to start. Any suggestions?

Check with Oceanside Photo and Telescope company. Thay have a vast selection of telescopes plus a staff that is well versed in all types of photography. They are the ones I use in 99% of my purchases. Just Google OPT.

Check your local craigs list for incredible deals.I saw a Meade LX90 8"with tons of accessories for 500.00 not long ago.Cheers.
