Presented here is a wide angle shot taken with a Canon 60Da and 70-300 mm lens. I shot each exposure at 70mm, f/5.6, 120 second exposure. This is a stack of 10 exposures giving a total of 20 minutes exposure time.
The Scutum Star Cloud is a distinct patch of the Milky Way seen in our summer skies. The upper left portion of the image contains a very large dark nebula that blocks the light of the stars and appears somewhat vacant. There is a slight reddish tint to the cloud itself as the nebula gets more rarefied and the stars shine through it turning red much like our setting sun. Towards the bottom right the stars appear bluish which is more of their true color. Several distinct dark globules can be seen against the star background. These are future stellar nurseries and will give birth to more stars in the far future.

What software program do you use for stacking images?
This is a nice, clear photo. It looks excellent on download.

I used a program called DeepSkyStacker which is available free on the internet. It can sometimes be difficult to use (at least it was for me), as the learning curve is the problem. But once it is mastered it produces beautiful results.
