For someone who says that they don't believe that God exists, you certainly spend a LOT of time talking about Him.

Your behavior is inconsistent with your stated viewpoint.

I don't believe that Spiderman is real and therefore I don't spend any of my waking hours trying to convince myself or others of his non-existence...my behavior is consistent with my stated viewpoint.

A Christian would say that you do know (deep down) that God does exist and yet you spend your time suppressing that knowledge. Your behavior is consistent with that viewpoint.

I spent 45 of my 53 years as a non-believer.

I spent a LOT of time and energy suppressing the knowledge of God's existence...from indifference, to insulting those who do believe, to arguing with those who believe, to talking about His non-existence to like-minded individuals.

But...deep down...where I'd never have admitted it...even to myself, I knew that He existed even when I argued that He didn't.

If you'd have asked me in 2004 if I would ever be one of those goofy bible believer idiots I'd have said "hell no!" but by the grace of God...I stand here today as one of those bible believers...and I'll be forever thankful that He saw fit to change my heart.

?

if your inference is that those who believe that their is a God are just "brainwashed" and those who don't are "enlightened" then I'd invite you to do the following: email me and we can politely discuss who's set of beliefs is more rational to hold.

That way you can go from the realm of "zingy one liners" in a forum setting to actually doing a logical comparison of your beliefs vs Christian beliefs...not quite as easy I suspect.

If you are game, you can email me at rpavich (at) gmail (dot) com.

I will keep your responses/emails intact and won't edit them. Once we have discussed the issue, I will post them on my blog in their entirety so that they become a learning tool.

It's my contention that most people are content to throw out "zingers" anonymously and leave the heavy-lifting of logical thinking to others.

Let's see if you are different.

?

I guess you must be asking "did something traumatic happen to you and you reached the end of your rope and you turned to God because you didn't have anything else?

Is that the question?

Two things:

1.) If you want to refute the existence of God, then you must know that there isn't a logical connection between HOW a person came to believe and whether God exists; it's perfectly plausible that something happens to be the catalyst in changing a person's belief in whether God exists.

Make sense?

2.) Nothing happened to me such as a tragedy or something like that. Put simply, a friend told me that I was a sinner in need of a savior; i.e. that unless I repented and put my trust in Christ, then I'd get my just punishment but that God made a way to escape that and that He was punished in my place.

I'd been told that many times before, but in that one instance it suddenly "made sense" and my "mind was changed."

Simple as that.

When the truth dawns in your heart and mind, the darkness of doubt vanishes:

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
~~John 8:12

People can't prove God exists, only He can do that. And, He's been doing it for a long time; in nature, in human lives, and in His Word.

No im not different and i have no wish to get into a religious discussion with you or anyone, that line "lets discuss it" you have used to others on here and i doubt if they have bothered either. As for being anonymous I am no different to anyone else on the Hog you included. One other thing I don't recall using the word enlightened to describe those who hold different views to yourself and to clear up a little thing was religion taught in your school from an early age as it was in mine and is still taught today to young children, hence the word brainwashed.

JR1,
this is a childish and short sighted statement designed not to exchange ideas but instead to shut down conversation.

If you haven't heard the Bahnsen VS Stein debate "Does God exist" then I invite you to listen, and read the transcript...it's enlightening.

As I've said 100 times before on this site and I said earlier to the other poster...if you've got the desire to do more than to throw out "soundbyte zingers" then please....by all means email me.

Email info above in earlier post.

Great argument...

Let's turn it around and see if it makes sense:

"....more people are killed by Non-theistic regimes than any religion ever did, therefore Atheism is true."

If that makes sense, then you have a sound argument.

Hint: bad argument.

I thought as much.

Thanks anyway.

PS: You mean you don't want to get into a "meaningful" religious discussion with me...because it's evident you don't mind shallow ones at all (if your posting history on the 'hog is any indication)
