My Grandfather, far left, sometime in the 1930's. Wish I knew how to fix.

I know this sounds like a LOT of work, but probably the same about as trying to fix this photo...
If you know the name of the newspaper, and they are still in business, contact them. They probably still have this on microfiche and would let you print a better quality of the photo.
You can also try going through 'ancestry.com' to see if it's out there...

There are some great programs out there that you can use to touch up old photos. I have one of my grandmother, her parents and cousins. It was cracked and stained. I took out the crack and stains, darked it a little and it looks good! I used a free program I found on the net. Also should be someone that could touch up your photo for you and your original would be preserved just the way it is, would not be harmed.

If you would like, I could try my program and see if I can clean up your Grandfather's picture. Just let me know.

That isn't an actual photo, it's newspaper print, with obvious pixels from the newspaper.

Yes, I know, but it could still be cleaned up with a program.

I think you could make it look much better with an editing program. I just spent a couple of minutes with content aware in PS Elements, as a test.

please dont get angry at me for saying this....I love the pictures. I want to see them. I love some of the genius out there particularly in regard to the sepia question. but would it be ok if you went to private messaging for some of the conversation....or perhaps start a new thread if you want a fix. IF YOU DONT LIKE WHAT I AM SAYING FEEL FREE TO SEND ME A PM.....but please dont take up any more space here that could be used for these most excellent, wonderful, pictures that I come to this thread to look at.
thanks...i hope that wasnt rude.

From an old album - we don't know any details

the first one is it a country school. ? our camera club have taken pictures of old country schools in our county ,found a old map that told where the county schools are or were. Then we put a add in the paper wanting old school pictures. We would go to their house and scan them or they could bring then to us and we would scan them for them. In front is usually the school name. maybe you can get more information on it and the names of the kids. sometime they have names on the back. The club made a paper back book that we gave to the librarys. The second one is probably in high school sport team. Its fun to find old pictures of your family.

Oh my Rivernan...you sure you want to do this? I have lots of B & W's. I love them. I have been working on my family history so I am collecting any that I can find. I promise to only show a few....

Hi Holdrens.... I re-did your father, took less than 5 minutes, I hope you like it better. It would turn out better with a high dpi scan and a full size picture.

I hope this isn't considered hijacking. I apologize if it is. i just thought in keeping with these wonderful vintage photos that many would be interested in this site of thousand's of VERY high resolution old photos. Be sure to view in full size!

Thank you Rivernan... I've been doing it for a few years. I actually started out with Microsoft's Picture It, a number of years ago. I re-did one of my grandmother at age 16, taken in Scotland. I was tickled pink with it then, but looks terrible to me know....;0) I need to do another restortion on it when I have the time. Posting a before and after, actually the first picture I ever restored....;0) Picture It was rather slim on restortion tools in those days
