Never Leave a Backpack Under a Bridge

Traveled to the Woodlands, Texas to experiment with DOF and composition. I set my camera backpack on sidewalk for a point of interest. There was a group of party boats behind me and across the water. I picked up my tripod and wandered north to set up for them. It was a Monday morning and there was no one else there. I figured the backpack would be safe.

The Woodlands security had a different take on my activities. Two guards, with radios, descended on my activities like bees on honey. After a look at my drivers license and pack content, all was well. I thanked them for there due diligence.

Yikes, have to agree with cosmo54, it's a sad sign of the times that we have to keep things like that in mind now and not leave packs even for a moment, even when we think we are safe from thieves. I wonder if I would have thought of that in the same situation... Glad it all turned out alright. Looks like you handled it quite well.

Signs saying, "Report unattended packages" go back decades, and for good reason.

Imagine if you took your rice cooker for a picnic? Wow, you got lucky!

Yep.
I remember when I was in France in 1994 we were riding the subway when a passenger got off leaving his trash in a bag in a seat. Others went to get on that car looked at the bag and backed back out. A moment later a subway employee came on to check the contents of the bag before the train moved again (we told him what happened). Bummer that it's the way things are now. :(

I find it hard to believe that all the hogs responding to date agree on this topic or any topic. Amazing. After reading posts for a few months, I sometimes doubt we can agree that sin and rattlesnakes are undesirable. This is not a bad thing; it is just another example of the freedom of expression we enjoy in our nation.

Good thing you didn't have a pressure cooker in it or you would have been writing this post.
