Does anyone have suggestions for a decent GPS. Some of the internet tech sites have what seem to be good deals right now. I can get a TomTom 550M or a Garmin nuvi 1300 for around $100. I don't know a thing about GPS's, so any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. I usually use a MAP when I travel, but on my last trip I got lost on gravel roads in the mountains of Vermont, and had a hell of a time getting around in Boston. Maybe it is time to get a GPS, before I take my next trip. Thanks, Don!!

I love my iPad 2 (need to have 3g capability) for gps when traveling because of the multitude of other purposes. But, if you don't have one, a simple nuvi is good too. I have one in my car that works well.

I want to thank all who responded with suggestions. Because of my research and the majority of the comments from you, Garmin will be my choice. Now I will have to decide which one I need. It will get one with lifetime upgrades. THANKS again, Bridgeman!!!!!!!!

I went for the Magellan Roadmate 1700 because it has a 7 1/2 inch screen. Much easier to read when accelerating through hairpin curves. Had it over a year and very pleased.

Thanks, I will check it out. I like the idea of a bigger screen. It would be easier to see while driving.

Or block your vision more depending on where it's mounted.

If you have a phone with an Android OS, Google has a great free nav program. It's integrated with Google earth, so you can actually see the street you're on, not just an illustration. I wish the iPhone had it, but that's the price I pay for using that phone (along with no Flash player).

Sorry folks, trials and errors took me to a Magellan 1412 and for 6/7 years it has never failed me. I bought it REFURBISHED at Circut City.Com for about $60 dollars. They have a wide selection of electronics at good prices.

They HAD a wide selection. They are no longer in business.

I love my Google navigator-it shows me an actual picture of my surroundings. It's really cool I can see what's off on those side roads that look so interesting. [no I don't do that when driving].

The images aren't available if you lose cell signal but it does save your whole route +/- five miles either side also.

When I'm going to a customer's house I can zoom it in and even see what their house looks like (feature only available in medium and larger cities). Also can zoom in an get somewhat of an idea what kind of road you will be driving on.
