Does anyone have suggestions for a decent GPS. Some of the internet tech sites have what seem to be good deals right now. I can get a TomTom 550M or a Garmin nuvi 1300 for around $100. I don't know a thing about GPS's, so any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. I usually use a MAP when I travel, but on my last trip I got lost on gravel roads in the mountains of Vermont, and had a hell of a time getting around in Boston. Maybe it is time to get a GPS, before I take my next trip. Thanks, Don!!

The wife and I did an 11,000 mile roadtrip in Sep/Oct of this year. I used a Garmin GPS and loved it. The Garmin I used is a higher-end model that I also use in my boat, but the Nuvi or other Garmins use the same software. I had it mounted on the dash where it was easy to glance at, like having a map unfolded all the time. It gives good directions - even lets you know in advance which way you'll be turning so you can be in the proper lane.

I've been using Garmin GPS products since 91, no complaints.

I'll just muddy the waters. I have had a Mio for several years and love it. Good service, free updates for life, and inexpensive with all the bells and features. (available at Radio shack)

Garmin! My younger son had Tom Tom, which we compared to my Garmin. I couldn't stand the darn thing. My oldest son had a Tom Tom for a cross country move. He hated it so much he traded it in for a Garmin.
I have 2 Garmins. My old one I keep in the lesser used car and the newer one in the newer car.
If you're getting any GPS, make sure you get one with "Lifetime Maps." limited updates and update plans can cost almost as much as a new GPS.

I've used GPS units since they first came out for the consumer, approximately 20 years ago. I've used handheld, car, and sophisticated boat navigation GPSs combining GPS and radar. I've tried just about everything available and can tell you without a doubt that GARMIN is the only way to go. Their features, engineering, and ease of use are unsurpassed. DON'T EVEN CONSIDER BUYING ANY GPS DEVICE NOT MANUFACTURED BY GARMIN!!!!!!

Sorry folks, trials and errors took me to a Magellan 1412 and for 6/7 years it has never failed me. I bought it REFURBISHED at Circut City.Com for about $60 dollars. They have a wide selection of electronics at good prices.

I have two Garmin Nuvi1300 and they just can't be beat for the price. You can find them on sale with lifetime updates for $89. I love the clarity of the voice and it gives you plenty of time to change lanes for turns. I've gone through 3 other makes over the years, some a 4 times the price of the Garmin1300. This time of year you may find some stores out, but they are worth the wait. Good Hunting

I am very happy for the people that have had good luck with their Magellan, Tom Tom or whatever, However if you want tips on Photos , This is the place to be, If you want solid science on GPS go to GPS Magazine. I just read on your behalf a shootout they did between, Garmin, Magellan & Tom, Tom. Garmin won as it has done consistently for many years. When it comes to biggest and best bang for your buck, Garmin is still #1. Best Of Luck, Frank

I have a Tom Tom XXL-540TM with lifetime traffic & maps. I get a new map every 3 months and updates every day. Recently I had occasion to use their technical support (I had an electrical outage when downloading the current map and it screwed everything up) and they were very helpful in getting me back on the right track. Would buy another one if need be.
