I believe this is why. Its called the Sixth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. You probably believe in the First Amendment regarding Speech and Religion and the Second Amendment regarding the right to bear arms. Do you not believe in the Sixth Amendment which states:

The uniform code of military justice while differing from the rules that all civilian citizens are subject to still takes these fundamental rights into account. It doesn't matter whether this person is innocent or admits guilt. It doesn't matter if he's a mass murderer like this military officer. You either believe in the Constitution and our system of justice or you don't. I suspect you do but were just responding with the anger we all feel towards this misguided zealot. But I believe we should avoid even suggesting that we bypass one of the fundamental tenets, the right to trial by jury, that has made this country great.
