Hi Folks,
Well the Challenge shall be a bit different and it is called Abstract Smoke, but that is not the difference, the difference is that I know absolutely nothing about it which means that we can all work together and learn something. According to the person who made up the site the hardest part is setting up, and he did not lie. My biggest problem is the angle of lighting and also the density of light.
I have been working on it a few times now for two days and have made some small progress and my State of Grace did some hard times too.
http://myphotographylesson.com/how-to-make-abstract-smoke/So..here we go..Good Luck and dont forget Challenges include errors and by errors we learn
This is my first try, using the back of a footmat because my wife refused to loan me her black skirt
The n things got better but the lighting wasn't good
Finally I made it here by changing the angle of the lighting
Somebody please help me find the site please?
My next step wil lbe to try and raise the speed so as to ''freeze'' the smoke some.

http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/search.jsp?q=smoke&u=&s=0. I was playing with smoke 2 days ago. I show my result. Your mistake is wrong light. I took my picture in dark room using flash. I found this scheme very good. Flash is isolated from background by 3 books. Sheet of white paper used as a reflector. Good luck.

Thank you SO much, MMC, appreciate it.
Very cool idea this is new....... Hmmmmm what can I do
You are off to a good start Roadrunner. MMC has a very simple and effective setup.
Here is another link for this subject,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2d281_HoEQI used two Vivitar 283 flash units set to half power and remote triggers. ISO was 400, 1/160 sec. and f11 or f8 all manual settings. The lens was a 35mm f1.8 on a D300. Colored filters were used for the different colors. I flipped the last one just to see something different.
Have always admired smoke pix and have read how to do them, but never tried it. Beautiful smoke here so far. If I know you, Road, you'll get it. I'd love to try it, but not at the moment.

Now this really is a CHALLENGE... Looks like you are working hard at it and by the end of the challenge I bet we will see greatness from you....
This one will be tough. I became a non smoker 4 years ago.
I don't even have matches around.

You know, Jim, that you are light years ahead of me but I REALLY appreciate your posting and after my first cup I'll get into the site. I'll be working diligently especially since we will be getting two days of rain... Thank you again

Thanx Sher. I do not know about greatness but I sure hope that I'll advance. I'll have to talk to my wife about her black skirt again.

p1 You'll be "smoking" these photos in no time. Good thing it's digits; - right? Think of all the film that would have gone up in smoke trying this. Ha Ha
