I have Adobe photo shop elements 10 and was wondering if there is a way to edit Raw photos with this program?

If your Adobe Camera Raw in Elements 10 supports your model (Nikon), all you have to do is double-ckick the thumbnail and it will open in ACR automatically.

Well, I guess that was stupid, if his Nikon is not supported by his version of ACR, than there wouldn't be any thumbnails. Sorry.

What camera?
Your program has to have the correct version of Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) to open the file from your camera.
You can find the links to check the version here:

If it seems so much gobbledygook, let me know what camera you have and I'll look it up for you.

When you import Raw files, thumbnails will be generated for these files by your OS. In the case of Windows, you will get generic thumbnails unless you install a Codec which will then create preview thumbnails. Elements (or Photoshop) will have no say in the matter. The problem will occur when you try to use either one of these programs to open a Raw file. If you have a newer camera and an older version of either program with an older version of ACR (which won't support your camera's Raw files), you will get an error message saying that the file in question cannot be opened because it is the wrong type of file.

Elements has the ability to open Raw files. This program comes with a plug-in (Camera Raw) which lets you edit Raw files before you even open them in the Editor. You can do all your editing in the Raw Converter or you can open your file in Elements for further editing.

Every camera manufacturer has its own proprietary Raw format. Adobe regularly updates the Raw Converter so that it will work with the Raw files produced by newer cameras. Therefore, successful opening/editing of your camera’s Raw files will depend on Elements 10’s Raw Converter support for your camera.

In another thread you mentioned that you have the Nikon D70 and is considering purchasing the Nikon D7100. If you purchase the D7100, you will encounter a problem. Adobe introduced support for this camera with Camera Raw 7.4 update. Unfortunately, this update is not compatible with Elements 10. The latest compatible Camera Raw update for this version of Elements is 6.7. Fortunately, you have the basic options below.

- Upgrade to Elements 11. This version was shipped with Camera Raw 7.1 update. The current installed update is 7.4.

- Upgrade to Elements 12, which should be released in September. (The bets are on September 23, Monday). This version will probably be shipped with Camera Raw 8.1 update.

- Use Adobe’s DNG Converter. This free utility will convert the Nikon D7100’s Raw files into the universal DNG format. Once your Raw files have been converted, they will open up in Elements 10’s Raw Converter.
